Shift Maintenance Technician

The closing date is 11 August 2025

The advertised post is for 37.5 hrs per week, Monday to Sunday participating on a 5-person rotary shift pattern working on a 4 on, 4 off basis, the post holder will be required to provide shift cover for annual leave and sickness as required.

Experience of the following is not essential but would be beneficial:Electrical distribution systems, generators, CHP, nurse call systems, fire alarm systems, boiler plant, steam and condensate systems, HVAC, compressors, and piped medical gases.

Main duties of the job

Ideally you will have completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship gaining Advanced City and Guilds / NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent, with five years post apprenticeship experience, working on mechanical and electrical plant and equipment. However, candidates who can demonstrate relevant experience will be considered.

Person Specification
Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
  • Sound Secondary education with evidence (eg. CSE's, O' Levels, GCSE's or NVQ's)
  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship
  • Advanced City and Guilds / NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent, with five years post apprenticeship experience, working on mechanical and electrical plant and equipment
  • HNC / HND in Mechanical / Electrical engineering
Other Requirements
  • Work at height and in confined spaces using appropriate PPE
  • Full driving licence for private light goods vehicle
Personal Attributes
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in close proximity to staff patients and public
  • Good time management
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to integrate into a rotary shift pattern
  • The post holder will have the ability to work in a multi skilled way carrying out duties of other engineering and building trades groups
  • Understanding of current Health & Safety Legislation, including Asbestos and COSHH
  • Experience of working within an engineering Maintenance / FM organisation or equivalent
  • Sound understanding of building services
  • Prioritise work load to perform in an efficient manner
  • Previous experience working within a Hospital Maintenance environment
  • Understanding of hard FM services
