Job description

Contract type: Fixed Term Contract

Hours: Full Time (36 hours per week)

Working Pattern: Nights (to include weekends)

Friends of the Elderly (FotE) is a not-for-profit charity dedicated to providing excellent care with a family feel. We have been supporting older people for over 100 years. The charity provides care home and day care services for older people, as well as grants for older people in financial difficulty.

Redcot, specialising in residential care, is located in the delightful town of Haslemere, Surrey. Overlooking beautiful gardens and surrounded by countryside, much of which is owned by the National Trust, Redcot is blessed with a tranquil setting.

Joining our dedicated team as a Shift Leader, you will be responsible for delivering person-centred care, tailored to each individual. Your role will involve supporting and enabling our residents to maintain key skills, personal interests, independence, choice, and dignity, so they can lead fulfilled lives.

  • You will ensure our residents are safe and comfortable.

  • You will act as a champion for their safety and dignity.

  • You will lead the team in providing quality, individualised care in line with procedures and policies.

  • You will ensure that clear, accurate records are maintained.

  • You will follow procedures for ordering, administering, and dispensing medication.

  • You will conduct supervisions and appraisals with staff and promote their development.

  • You will maintain a safe, clean workplace and follow infection control protocols.

Our shift patterns include evenings, weekends, and some unsociable hours to ensure we can achieve this.

To succeed in this role, you will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with residents and effectively hand over information to colleagues. Digital skills, problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and safeguarding awareness are also essential.

As a Shift Leader, no two days are the same. You will have at least 2 years’ experience in a care setting, ideally in a senior role, and be comfortable administering medication. A compassionate nature, positive attitude, and initiative are vital. An NVQ Level 3 in health and social care and leadership training are desirable but not essential.

We provide comprehensive training and tools. We only ask for a willingness to learn and enthusiasm to help others live their lives to the fullest.

This isn’t just a job; it’s about making a difference in older people's lives every day.

In return, you will enjoy benefits such as:

  • Learning, development, and progression opportunities

  • Paid breaks

  • Monthly prize draw with three prizes

  • Wellbeing support and employee assistance programs

  • Retail discounts

  • Access to affordable loans and salary advances

  • Health cash plans for you and your family

  • Cycle to work scheme

  • Long service awards

  • Referral bonus of £200

  • Group pension plan with 6% employer contribution

  • Free parking

  • Enhanced pay for evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and overtime

  • Uniforms provided

  • Free DBS checks

Criminal record checks:

Successful applicants will undergo an enhanced DBS check, including barred list checks. Employment depends on satisfactory clearance. Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify you, as it depends on the circumstances.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion:

We strive to create a workplace that is diverse and inclusive, where everyone can be themselves and respect each other's differences. We welcome applications from those with the right to work in the UK, but do not currently sponsor visas.

Apply promptly as we may close the vacancy early if filled. We interview as applications are received. Please refer to the job description when submitting your application.
