The Shift Leader leads by embodying Potbelly values, managing and developing team members to deliver excellent product quality and customer service, while building sales and controlling costs during each shift.

Candidate Qualifications
  • Desire to delight customers with great food and positive vibes
  • Friendly, customer service-oriented
  • Strong communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable with noise levels typical of a busy environment
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced setting
  • Ability to manage potential allergens (peanuts, eggs, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood, shellfish)
  • Ability to handle kitchen heat; knife skills a plus
  • At least 18 years old
  • Preferred: 1+ year supervisory experience in food service or retail
  • Ability to stand/walk for 8-9 hours
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
  • Illinois applicants: food safety certification within 30 days of employment
Job Responsibilities
  • Lead shift team, assign tasks, and provide feedback
  • Follow security procedures
  • Maintain back-of-house standards
  • Count cash drawers and handle cash procedures
  • Prepare quality food items efficiently
  • Comply with health and safety standards
  • Restock supplies
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation
  • Operate cash register and handle customer issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Note: All Shift Leaders and Managers must pass a Food Safety Certification course through the appropriate state or national agency. Failure to pass after two attempts disqualifies continued employment in a management role.
