Arriva UK Bus is seeking skilled Engineers across the business to maintain and improve our fleet and infrastructure, ensuring safe and reliable service for millions of passengers daily.

The role covers PSV engineering, HGV maintenance, and related mechanical work with opportunities for career progression and ongoing training within a leading UK transport operator.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in PSV or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding experience in a workshop or fleet environment.
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures in engineering/transport environments.

Responsibilities

• Carry out preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on buses, PSVs, vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults using diagnostic tools.
• Complete repairs, modifications and upgrades in line with DVSA and safety standards.
• Support fleet reliability through fault finding and problem solving.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics and manuals.

Job description

Arriva UK Bus is looking for skilled and experienced Engineers to join our growing engineering teams across the business. Whether your background is in PSV engineering, HGV maintenance, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, rail, heavy plant, or commercial vehicle repair, this is an exciting opportunity to build a long‑term engineering career with one of the UK’s leading transport operators. As an Engineer at Arriva, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving our fleet and infrastructure, helping ensure our vehicles remain safe, reliable, and fully operational for the millions of passengers who rely on our services every day.

Key Responsibilities – Engineer / PSV Engineer / HGV Technician

• Carry out preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on buses, PSVs, vehicles, and engineering equipment
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using advanced diagnostic tools and equipment
• Complete repairs, modifications, and upgrades in line with DVSA, safety, and engineering standards
• Support fleet reliability through effective fault finding and technical problem solving
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation
• Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
• Maintain accurate engineering records, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation
• Work collaboratively with workshop teams, supervisors, and operational departments
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve vehicle reliability and workshop efficiency
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and apprentices where required

What We’re Looking For

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in PSV or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance
• Previous experience as a PSV Engineer, HGV Technician, Bus Mechanic, Vehicle Technician, Mechanical Engineer, or Heavy Vehicle Engineer
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding experience within a workshop or fleet environment
• Experience using engineering tools, workshop equipment, and vehicle diagnostic systems
• Ability to work independently and as part of an engineering team
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures within engineering and transport environments
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality workmanship
• Full UK driving licence preferred
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays where required
