Job summary

Biffa is seeking a hands-on Shift Engineering Supervisor for our Materials Recovery Facility in Edmonton. You will lead a multi-skilled team, drive plant performance, and ensure maintenance is executed safely and efficiently with strong leadership and hands-on problem solving.

You will prioritise maintenance across the shift, deliver proactive and reactive maintenance, and support RCA investigations while developing the team and maintaining high engineering standards.

Qualifications

• HNC in Mechanical or Plant Engineering (or equivalent).
• Experience supervising engineering teams in industrial/manufacturing settings.
• Strong fault finding and problem solving ability.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics and welding.
• Able to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced operation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a shift team of engineers and contractors to maximise plant performance.
• Prioritise maintenance activities to support operations and uptime.
• Fault finding, diagnostics and repairs across plant and machinery.
• Deliver preventative and breakdown maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Support RCA investigations and implement long-term actions.
• Identify improvements to increase reliability and efficiency.
• Ensure all activities are safe and compliant with procedures.
• Maintain CMMS records and ensure clear shift handovers.

Help us make a difference as a Shift Engineering Supervisor at our MRF in Edmonton.

Location: Edmonton

Salary: £55,895.84 per annum + London Weighting Allowance

Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off, rotating 2 days and 2 nights

A quick look at the role

We're looking for a hands on Shift Engineering Supervisor to lead and support a team of multi skilled technicians at our busy Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Edmonton.

You'll be responsible for driving plant performance, reducing downtime, prioritising engineering activity, and ensuring maintenance work is completed safely and efficiently. This is a key leadership role where you\'ll lead by example, develop your team, and help deliver high engineering and operational standards across site.

Our Essential Requirements

• HNC qualified in Mechanical or Plant Engineering.
• Previous experience supervising engineering teams within an industrial, manufacturing or processing environment.
• Strong fault finding and problem solving ability.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics and welding.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and perform well in a fast paced operational environment.

Previous experience in the following roles will also be considered:
Engineering Team Leader, Maintenance Team Leader, Shift Maintenance Supervisor, Engineering Operations Supervisor, Lead Shift Engineer, Engineering Chargehand, Senior Maintenance Engineer, Engineering Shift Lead, Site Engineering Supervisor or Maintenance Shift Lead.
