Job summary

Biffa Waste Services in the United Kingdom is looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join our on-site engineering team. You will perform preventative, reactive and corrective maintenance on plant equipment, driving reliability and aligning with manufacturing standards.

The role focuses on reducing downtime, improving uptime, and delivering improvements under ISO quality and safety frameworks. You will liaise with SHEQ, manage CMMS Frontline tasks, and coordinate with contractors

Qualifications

• Essential electrical/electrical engineering qualification and safety training.
• Experience with planned, preventative and corrective maintenance.
• Familiar with continuous improvement and CMMS usage.

Responsibilities

• Provide reactive and proactive maintenance on plant equipment and facilities.
• Coordinate with external contractors, obtain RAMS and permits to work.
• Execute and sign off on PMs, RMs and CMs in the CMMS Frontline.
• Support projects and process improvements to reduce downtime and boost KPI performance.
• Maintain CMMS accuracy and manage maintenance stock.

Job description

Salary:up to £52,271.31 per annum

Working pattern:6am - 6pm and 6pm - 6am (Four on, four off rotation)

In this role you will form part of our engineering team onsite contributing to the internal & external preventative, reactive and corrective maintenance work on our plant equipment. Our goal as a team is to continuously improve machine reliability, availability & capacity to manufacturing standards.

Increase the site operational effectiveness, improve on project delivery, mean time between failure and downtime reduction, and manage and implement improvement plans, driving Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do, and this role is no difference. You will liaise with the SHEQ team to resolve H&S, environmental, internal audits, GMP, COSHH and ISO quality issues. You'll ensure all compliance checks are complete and correctly filed ensuring our site is operating in full compliance with UK regulations and Global manufacturing standards.

Your key responsibilities:

• Providing both a reactive and pro-active, highly skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure
• Liaise with external contractors for reactive maintenance and to Schedule planned service maintenance. Request & check RAMS, induct personnel, provide permits to work and oversee contractor works onsite to ensure work is carried out safely
• Following and completing (signing off) planned maintenance (PMs, RMs & CMs) via a Computer Maintenance Management System and overseeing the adherence and timely completion of work carried out
• Actively participate in Projects, continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes
• Assist in the administration of the CMMS (Frontline) to ensure its accuracy at all times. Frontline to be used for all maintenance and stock activities

Essential skills for this role:

• NVQ Level 3 Electrical/Electronic Engineering
• BS7671 18th edition (advantageous)
• Previous health and safety training - Does not need to be in date but proof of experience
• Familiar and worked with continuous improvement (CI)
