Job summary

Zenith Advisory Partners is seeking an Engineering Technician (mechanical and electrical) for a fast-paced manufacturing site in Leicester. You will own maintenance on high-speed lines, pumps, gearboxes and conveyors, with a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, covering days and nights.

You will diagnose faults, perform planned maintenance and support continuous improvement projects while ensuring safety standards and accurate records. This is a hands-on engineering role with development potential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or time-served apprenticeship.
• Solid experience of mechanical maintenance and fault-finding in manufacturing environments.
• Experience on high-speed automated machinery and PPM delivery.
• Knowledge of safety and regulatory frameworks including LOTO requirements.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and repair mechanical systems, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors and drives.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance to minimise breakdowns.
• Respond to and root-cause equipment failures across the site.
• Ensure all work meets safety standards and documentation is up to date.
• Provide hands-on technical support to production during shifts and support CI initiatives.

Your New Job

Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, you'll work a 4 on 4 off shift pattern covering both days and nights, taking ownership of mechanical maintenance and engineering activity across the site, including high-speed production lines, converting equipment and site utilities. Day to day you'll carry out fault diagnosis and repairs on mechanical systems, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors and drive systems, execute planned preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns, and respond to and root-cause equipment failures. You'll ensure all mechanical work meets legal, regulatory and site safety standards, including LOTO procedures, and keep drawings, documentation and equipment records up to date. You'll also provide hands‑on technical support to production teams during your shift and get involved in continuous improvement initiatives, equipment upgrades, and new machinery installations alongside the Engineering Supervisor.

Your Experience and Requirements

ZAP are searching for candidates with an NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance, or equivalent (or a time‑served mechanical engineering apprenticeship). You'll need solid experience of mechanical maintenance and fault‑finding within a manufacturing or industrial environment, ideally on high-speed automated machinery, plus a track record delivering PPM and working within strict safety and compliance frameworks. An HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering would be an advantage.
