Job summary

Elvet Recruitment have been appointed to recruit a Site Chemist for the regional division of a £75m waste company in Teesside.

Independently-owned with a family business ethos and a strong tradition of developing careers; benefits include health, pension and yearly pay rises. Main duties include operating process plant and laboratory activities, analysing loads, ensuring safety, maintaining documentation, and supporting site operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC in chemistry or equivalent qualification.
• Good knowledge of hazardous waste and related legislation.
• Ability to assess safety, environmental and plant impact of processing hazardous waste.
• Experience with Health, Safety and Environmental legislation relevant to company activities.
• Competency in handling hazardous chemicals; computer literacy with Excel and Word.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and build rapport with customers.

Responsibilities

• Operate process plant in line with permit, procedures and consent to discharge.
• Analyse all incoming loads in a timely fashion designating process routes.
• Operate laboratory processes safely, using required PPE and SOPs.
• Ensure provision of correct documentation for all incoming and outgoing loads.
• Ensure site activities comply with SHE policies and health, safety and environmental laws.
• Provide analytical information to optimise vehicle turnaround, processing efficiency and customer service.
• Assist in developing and improving site activities and processes including waste stream analyses.
• Take appropriate action with respect to waste acceptance and rectify problems.
• Pack and segregate lab waste at customer sites following SOPs.

Job description

Elvet Recruitment have been appointed to recruit a Site Chemist for the regional division of a £75m waste company in Teesside.

Main duties will include:

• Operate process plant in line with permit, procedures and consent to discharge.


• Analyse all incoming loads in a timely fashion designating process routes to site personnel.


• Operate all laboratory processes in a safe and efficient manner, using the correct Personal Protective Equipment and working within the Standard Operating Procedures.


• Ensure the provision of the correct documentation for all incoming and outgoing loads.


• To ensure that all site activities are carried out in full compliance with the Company's S.H.E. policies and all Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and regulations in order that the operations at the site do not negatively impact on human health, the environment or public amenity.


• To provide analytical information that will optimise vehicle turnaround time, processing efficiency and customer service.


• To assist in the development and improvement of site activities and processes including the analysis of samples for new potential waste streams.


• Take appropriate action with respect to waste acceptance and rectifying any problems.


• Pack and segregate lab smalls waste at customer sites in a safe and efficient manager working to standard operating procedures.

To be considered, applicants should have:

• A minimum HNC in chemistry


• A good knowledge of hazardous waste.


• The ability to assess potential safety/environmental/plant impact of processing hazardous waste.


• Experience of Health and Safety and Environmental legislation as related to the Company's activities.


• Technically competency in the handling of Hazardous Chemicals


• Computer literacy with basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word


• The ability to work effectively within a team


• A strong communication skills


• The ability to build and maintain rapport with customers so as to promote and maintain positive customer relations


• A full Driving License
