Job summary

OCU Group is seeking a SHESQ Advisor to drive safety, health, environment and quality across departments in Leeds. Permanent, full-time role focusing on delivering SHESQ assurance and guidance to project teams, safeguarding people and assets.

You will support tenders and contracts, develop capability and lead improvement initiatives. You will lead communications, inductions and worker involvement, with opportunities to mentor junior SHESQ Advisors and contribute to a strong safety culture across

Qualifications

• Must have NEBOSH Diploma or working towards; IOSH/ISEP membership desirable.
• ILM Level 4 or equivalent is preferred; Lead Auditor or experience with ISO 45001/14001 is a plus.
• Strong IT skills and ability to use company systems; full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Deliver SHESQ assurance and support via planned assurance activities and proactive campaigns.
• Provide frontline SHESQ leadership to Project Managers and site leaders, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated.
• Support tendering, PQQs, bids and new contracts with SHESQ input and risk assessments.
• Lead SHESQ communications, inductions and worker consultation, and mentor Level 2/3 Advisors.
• Coordinate specialist SHESQ input and conduct audits, inspections and SHESQ activities regionally.

The Opportunity

As a SHESQ Advisor, you will be responsible for supporting effective SHESQ delivery across allocated departments, projects, contracts and operational areas. The role provides dynamic, tactical support to local operational management to protect people, assets and the environment from harm.

What You'll Do

• Deliver SHESQ assurance and support by implementing planned assurance activity, responding dynamically to business needs, and supporting coordinated assurance strategies, including reactive/corrective actions and proactive campaigns.
• Provide front-line SHESQ leadership and advice to Project Managers, Site Managers, Supervisors, Front-Line Managers and other stakeholders, ensuring risks are identified, controlled and mitigated in line with policies, assurance strategies and Mindset principles.
• Support operational planning and mobilisation through SHESQ input to tenders, PQQs, bids, new contracts, projects, depots and acquisitions, while coaching teams in risk assessments, method statements, SHESQ plans and CDM Construction Phase Plans.
• Lead communication, engagement and capability development through SHESQ communications, inductions, worker consultation, coaching and mentoring, including development of Level 2/3 SHESQ Advisors and line management responsibilities.
• Provide specialist and dynamic SHESQ support by leading an agreed area of expertise within the UK-wide SMS pool, coordinating specialist input, delivering improvement and coaching campaigns, and undertaking audits, inspections and other emerging SHESQ activities across regions and contracts.

What You'll Bring

• Professional qualifications: NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent H&S management qualification (or working towards); Technical Member of IOSH and/or ISEP; ILM Level 4 or equivalent (or working towards); and Lead/Internal Auditor qualification or experience in ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001.
• Technical & sector experience: Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and company systems; experience in SHESQ assurance and front-line support within relevant sectors; full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
• Desirable qualifications: Complementary qualifications in Environmental and/or Quality disciplines, together with additional Quality-related qualifications and skills.
• Leadership & communication: Professional, self-organised and motivated, with strong collaboration, stakeholder influencing, communication and presentation skills; able to lead, motivate, coach and mentor others and support effective SHESQ leadership and culture.
• Personal effectiveness: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, a positive "can-do" and methodical approach, passion for driving process safety management, and a proven ability to deliver results and develop Trainees and Level 2/3 SHESQ Advisors.
