Job summary

A leading environmental services company is seeking an Experienced Health and Safety Support Officer based in the Reading area. This role involves supporting the health and safety management system and conducting risk assessments. The position offers a salary between £30,000 to £40,000, a fixed-term contract for 12 months, and a range of employee benefits.

Job description

WCS Group are part of Marlowe Environmental Services.

WCS Group are looking for an Experienced Health and Safety Support Officer. The successful candidate will be ideally based in Reading area and cover the Midlands and South East regions.

Package

  • Salary-£30,000-£40,000
  • 37.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday on a Fixed Term Contract up to 12 Months
  • 23 days holiday per year plus bank holidays. After 2 complete years' continuous service with the Company you will be entitled to one extra day of holiday for every complete year of service thereafter, to a maximum of 25 days
  • 10 extra paid days leave for Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers to attend their annual training

Duties

  • Support the Health and Safety Manager in implementing and updating the organisation's health and safety management system
  • Conduct and review risk assessments, safe systems of work, and method statements in collaboration with operational teams
  • Monitor workplace conditions through regular site inspections and audits; track and follow up on any required actions
  • Participate in the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and identifying root causes and corrective actions
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of internal H&S training sessions, inductions, and toolbox talks
  • Advise and guide staff on H&S queries in accordance with legislation and company policy
  • Support H&S reporting through the collation of data and preparation of regular reports and dashboards for management review
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the health and safety culture across the organisation

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a health and safety role, preferably within a high-risk or multi-site environment
  • Solid understanding of UK health and safety legislation and industry best practices
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and workplace inspections
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of using H&S management software/systems
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory visits

Requirements

  • Full Manual Driving Licence
  • Frequent travel to operational sites which will require overnight stay
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (essential)
  • Additional health and safety certifications (e.g., Fire Safety, Manual Handling, First Aid, IOSH Managing Safely) are desirable
  • Tech IOSH status or working towards (preferred)
