Sustainable Talent is seeking a SHEQ Manager to lead safety, health, environment and quality performance across major utility projects. You will collaborate with operational teams, clients, and supply chain partners to ensure compliance and excellence.

The role requires Chartered IOSH or progression toward it, a NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in H&S, and proven leadership experience in a similar environment within utilities or infrastructure.

  • NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Health & Safety.
  • Proven experience as SHEQ Manager in utilities/infrastructure.
  • Strong people management and leadership experience.
  • Experience with UK Health & Safety legislation and management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and drive SHEQ performance across multiple projects and workstreams.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to operational teams and SHEQ Advisors.
  • Drive continual improvement across Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality performance.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, investigations and assurance activities.
  • Monitor compliance with procedures, client requirements and industry standards.
  • Produce SHEQ reports and KPI updates for senior management.
  • Support project planning, risk management and operational decisions.
  • Promote and develop a positive SHEQ culture within the business.
  • Coach and develop SHEQ personnel across the contract.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and supply chain partners.

Job description

The Role

Reporting into senior operational leadership, the SHEQ Manager will take responsibility for driving SHEQ performance across multiple projects and workstreams, ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance and operational excellence are maintained.

This is a highly visible leadership role requiring close collaboration with operational teams, clients, supply chain partners and SHEQ professionals to support the successful delivery of utility and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage SHEQ performance across a major utilities framework.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to operational teams, supervisors and SHEQ Advisors.
  • Drive continual improvement initiatives across Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality performance.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, investigations and assurance activities.
  • Monitor compliance with company procedures, client requirements and industry standards.
  • Produce SHEQ reports, KPI data and performance updates for senior management.
  • Support project planning, risk management and operational decision-making.
  • Promote and develop a positive SHEQ culture throughout the business.
  • Coach, mentor and develop SHEQ personnel across the contract.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders and supply chain partners.
About You
  • Chartered IOSH status (CMIOSH) or be working towards Chartered Membership.
  • NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 6 or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Proven experience operating at SHEQ Manager level within a comparable environment.
  • Strong people management and leadership experience.
  • A background within utilities, water, power, gas, infrastructure or heavy civil engineering projects.
  • Experience managing SHEQ performance across multiple projects, sites or operational contracts.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and management systems.
Desirable Experience
  • Previous experience working on water utility frameworks.
  • Experience within regulated utility environments.
  • Exposure to large-scale civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of quality and environmental management systems
