EQUANS is looking for a SHEQ Manager

to join our team in Manchester on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working Monday to Friday. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

The main purpose is to ensure, in conjunction with the regional Head of SHEQ and local MDs, that adequate arrangements are made within each service provision for the effective implementation and operation of ISO standards and systems. The Manager will also ensure that all resources, either internal or outsourced, are used effectively to support the business. To understand, adhere to, and implement the company SHEQ policy/strategy, and ensure all reporting to you do the same.

What will you deliver?
  • Ensure equal SHEQ support is provided across all two service areas
  • Efficient management of resources allocated to the division
  • Ensure data regarding SHEQ performance is effectively captured and analyzed to enable the development and implementation of improvement plans
  • Work with operational teams across the northern region to construct, implement, and achieve standardization
  • Provide support and guidance to the region on technical, legal, and other issues as required
  • Proactively work with operational teams during the project lifecycle to ensure SHEQ is considered at all stages and relevant control measures are identified
  • Assist the business with the implementation of ISO standards and systems
  • Monitor and manage SHEQ systems relating to the region
  • Undertake active monitoring and auditing, providing feedback via the company's reporting system
  • Highlight areas of poor practice and/or significant risk
  • Manage incidents and coordinate detailed factual reports, identifying root causes and recommendations for improvement
  • Produce management reports on SHEQ performance and other required information
  • Ensure incidents falling under RIDDOR are reported to the HSE
  • Investigate and report significant risk or reportable incidents under RIDDOR to the Regional Managing Director
  • Assist individual service Directors with the implementation of ISO standards and systems
  • Handle interactions with HSE, Environment Agency, insurers, and other bodies in major incidents or as required
  • Manage responses to insurance claims related to incidents within the region
  • Collaborate with service Directors on developing and implementing local improvement strategies
  • Produce trend analysis on good and bad practices, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and incidents with the broader Northern SHEQ team
  • Any other reasonable management requests

Who are we looking for?
  • Recognized health and safety qualification, minimum NEBOSH Certificate
  • Working towards NEBOSH Diploma in H&S and/or Environmental Management or equivalent
  • Recognized Temporary Works Certificate accredited to CITB
  • Recognized Appointed Persons Certificate accredited to CITB
  • Recognized M&E certificate
  • Relevant experience in SHEQ functions within a similar-sized business
  • Experience in developing and implementing safety management systems
  • Experience managing major SHE incidents
  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK SHE legislation
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Strong relationships with operational leadership
  • Flexible and hands-on at all levels
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
