Elvet Recruitment Limited are seeking an HSE Lead to own Safety, Health, Environment and Quality across a North East business, leading integrated SHEQ systems and driving a proactive safety culture.

You'll work with senior leadership, operational teams and site management to maintain compliance, improve performance and ensure high standards are consistently achieved.

The role is permanent with a salary up to £52,500 + package and Elvet Recruitment Limited acting as the employer for our client.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a SHEQ leadership or management role within civil engineering, utilities or construction.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, environmental compliance and quality management systems.
• Experience developing and maintaining integrated management systems.
• Confident conducting audits, inspections, investigations and risk assessments.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence teams at all levels.
• A proactive approach to compliance, problem-solving and continuous improvement.
• Relevant SHEQ qualifications, such as NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent.
• Experience within the water, wastewater, power or utilities sectors would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop integrated SHEQ management systems, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
• Drive continuous improvement across health, safety, environmental and quality performance.
• Promote a positive safety culture across all levels of the business.
• Conduct site inspections, audits and risk assessments, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Monitor and report on SHEQ performance, providing guidance and support to operational teams.
• Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses, implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure compliance with client requirements, industry standards and accreditation schemes.
• Deliver SHEQ training, briefings and awareness initiatives.
• Support project teams in maintaining safe systems of work, environmental controls and quality standards.
• Monitor legislative changes and ensure company policies and procedures remain up to date.
