Job description

4C Executive Placement are partnering up with a fast growing, dynamic, forward thinking business that plays a key role in the UK’s green economy as they seek to appoint a SHEQ Director.

With a growing portfolio across the UK and investments in both operational and greenfield assets, our client is renowned for its critical role in the UK’s energy transition, making a significant contribution to the green economy providing green jobs, reducing emissions and protecting our environment.

Reporting to the CEO, the SHEQ Director will have ultimate accountability for the design, execution, and oversight of the health, safety, environmental, and quality frameworks across the group’s entire asset portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for not only protecting the group’s licence to operate but also further developing existing processes, policies and structures in order to support safe growth and expansion.

This position requires a dynamic and innovative executive who will go beyond the purely compliance/bureaucratic nature of health, safety, environmental, and quality frameworks, transforming the function into a strategic player within the business and translating risks into strategic business plans that will safeguard the business and its reputation.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Significant experience in a senior, strategic SHEQ leadership role.
  • Background ideally within highly regulated, high-hazard sectors such as environmental processing, AD plants, waste management and processing, utilities, or similar process-driven environments.
  • Demonstrable track record of leading and developing a geographically dispersed SHEQ team across multi-site operational environments, driving consistent standards.
  • Demonstrable experience of embedding a proactive safety behavioural mindset and accountability framework successfully moving operational teams beyond passive, systems-only compliance.
  • Proven experience developing and scaling robust, process and equipment focused SHEQ frameworks that support business growth, organisational change, and multi-site expansion, ideally in a PE-backed or agile corporate setting.
  • Direct experience overseeing greenfield commissioning, asset integration, and navigating complex environmental permitting and multi-jurisdictional statutory compliance.
  • Demonstrable experience ensuring compliance with COMAH and other sector relevant statutory regulations.
  • Proven history of providing board-level assurance, managing risk appetite, and translating technical SHEQ risks into practical business strategies.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a thriving business and be a key contributor to the next chapter of an ambitious growth plan.
