Job description

Overview

West Coast Thermal Ltd is a major asbestos removal company based in Workington, Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District. We provide the full spectrum of asbestos removal, thermal insulation and passive fire protection.

Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, we are seeking a SHEQ Coordinator to provide advice and support the business in all aspects of Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality, driving continuous improvement in SHEQ performance.

While candidates may not have all the essential qualifications or experience necessary, applications are welcome from graduates and those seeking a development opportunity.

Role:

  • Support the Company in their endeavours to comply with all legislative obligations and to meet the requirements of ISO 9001 Quality Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System to ensure continual improvement
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture
  • Remain current with Health, Safety & Environmental standards, relevant legislation, and best practice techniques
  • Conduct workplace and site inspections/audits
  • Attend and provide input at SHEQ Meetings
  • Conduct and review risk assessments (Fire, Legionella, DSE, A&I Register)
  • Development and delivery of SHEQ training materials (toolbox talks, briefings, legal updates, etc.)
  • Carry out internal investigations, documenting findings, corrective actions and lessons learned
  • Prepare and review COSHH assessments
  • Conduct routine inspections and testing of safety equipment
  • Prepare consignment notes for hazardous waste, and record/trend waste and carbon footprint data
  • Compile SHEQ performance data
  • Support the business to ensure memberships, licenses, certification and accreditations remain current
  • Assist with sub-contractor vetting processes
  • Schedule and arrange training, occupational health medical appointments, face fit testing
  • Deputise for the SHEQ Manager in their absence

Person specification:

  • Well organised, diplomatic, assertive and self-disciplined
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence site teams and challenge constructively
  • Hands-on, proactive approach to SHEQ management
  • Excellent customer service and client/external interface skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)

Qualifications/Experience:

Essential

  • 3 GCSEs grade C, including English Language
  • NEBOSH General Certificate Occupational Health and Safety or NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Experience of carrying out audits and investigations
  • Experience in delivery of presentations/training
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Right to work in the UK
  • IT literacy skills in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Desirable

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management
  • NEBOSH Construction and Design Management
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental
  • Management / IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management
  • Internal / External auditor (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)
  • Trainer qualification (PTLLS, Train The Trainer)
  • IOSH membership
  • CSCS Card
  • Current DBS certificate
  • Security Clearance
