We are seeking experienced qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapists to join our supportive/compassionate team. Our therapists offer a combination of face-to-face & online therapy sessions. Main duties of the job

Job purpose

The post holder will be accredited (or working towards acquiring full accreditation) CBT therapist working in Sheffield Talking Therapies. They will provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to adults with depression and a range of anxiety disorders in line with NICE guidance and the National Talking Therapies manual.

General requirements

The post holder will offer CBT for depression and/or anxiety to patients in a variety of settings, predominantly related to primary care.

To meet the National Talking Therapies standards (which currently includes an individual minimum 52% recovery rate, 48% reliable recovery rate and 67% reliable improvement).

To ensure productivity expectations are met in line with the National Talking Therapies manual, currently to deliver 20 clinical contact hours (pro-rata) per week. These standards are reviewed nationally, and it is expected that staff will continue to meet any updated standards

To meet patient needs by working across Sheffield according to demand. Working a minimum of 22.5 hours per week & working Thursday PM to support you in the role. Thursday afternoons are service wide non-clinical time which involves, meetings, forums and CPD opportunities.

To offer at least one early appointment and one late appointment per week and Saturday working on occasion if required.

Mandatory attendance at profession-specific and service non-clinical time which involves supervision, line management, meetings, forums and CPD.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

Assess patient suitability for CBT interventions in line with NICE guidance in a stepped care model. Provide consultations with Talking Therapies staff on suitability, and feed back to stakeholders on suitability issues to support the patient to access the right intervention.

Completing onward referral to other services where appropriate. Assess and manage risk collaboratively with the patient and adhere to the Talking Therapies risk protocol, working to ensure the safety of the patient and others. Formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for patients. Complete all mandated session-by-session outcome measures. The post holder will work with people from different cultural backgrounds; where necessary, work using an interpreter. Demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities and cultural competence. Use highly developed communication skills with patients to understand their personal and sensitive difficulties. Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of patients in line with the service and the National Talking Therapies manual. Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as appropriate, conveying CBT formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language. Adhere to a job plan relating to patient contacts and clinical sessions to minimise waiting times and ensure timely delivery of treatment. Keep coherent records of all clinical activity and complete data collection as required. Work closely with other team members to maintain a stepped care approach. Liaise with other health and social care staff as appropriate. Demonstrate clinical leadership appropriate to banding where required.

Deliver face-to-face and virtual treatment sessions with patients on a weekly basis. Be available to be in work for the full hours if there is a service need.

Training and supervision

Contribute to the development, teaching and training of other mental health professionals and staff in the service. Attend clinical supervision regularly as agreed with Manager and as outlined in the National Talking Therapies manual. Undertake Clinical Supervisors training and provide supervision to other Cognitive Behavioural Therapists. Ensure all mandatory training and CPD is up to date in line with service protocol.

Professional

Be guided by Trust and Sheffield Talking Therapies policies and procedures; Best Practice Guidance; SOPs. Ensure record keeping in line with service procedures, including notes within 24 hours and discharge summaries to GP practices. Commit to improving recovery rates, using data, supervision and CPD for continuous improvement. Maintain standards of practice with regulatory bodies (e.g., BABCP) and keep up to date with guidelines. Ensure patient confidentiality is protected. Stay current with advances in CBT and related therapies. Identify and review professional objectives with line managers. Attend supervision and performance reviews. Maintain CPD records and participate in service improvement.

Advisory / Liaison

Provide advisory service on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy practices. Promote positive relationships with Primary and Secondary Care staff to coordinate an effective Psychological Therapies Service.

General

Support development of best practice within the service. Maintain knowledge of legislation and policies related to Mental Health and Primary Care. All staff must comply with Health and Safety, Data Protection and confidentiality policies. Travel across Sheffield to meet service needs and participate in service activities as required. Proficiency with computer use and videoconferencing as a treatment option.

Training & Qualifications
  • Recognised qualification as a High Intensity Talking Therapies CBT therapist. BABCP Accreditation or Provisional Accreditation for CBT OR Post-graduate, doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the HCPC and/or BPS
  • OR Registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the HCPC. Accredited with BABCP (or provisional accreditation)
  • Post-graduate, doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the HCPC and/or BPS
