Job description

Main Purpose of the role:

1. Providing SHE advice to Business Unit (BU);
2. Monitoring and reporting BU SHE performance;
3. Monitoring BU SHE trends to ensure standards are upheld;
4. Encourage and track BUU incident and near miss reporting via the company UNOR system;
5. Liaison with SHE Managers, Corporate SHE team, BU employees/contractors and other stakeholders;
6. To act as a competent person for the BUU in matters relating to SHE;
7. Travel to sites across the UK where BU staff and contractors are located;
8. Occasional visit to NUVIA office locations (Oxfordshire and Cheshire).

Position in the Organisation:

1. Providing authoritative advice to all levels of staff.
2. Reporting SHE performance to the BU board/senior leadership team;
3. Key relationships are with BU board members, Project Managers, Site Managers, Site Supervisors, Client SHE personnel, Regulators, Bid Managers, Radiation Protection Advisors and Supervisors;
4. Supported by SHE administration assistant.
5. Formal and informal interactions with Trade Union Representatives.

Scope of Job:

1. Provision of safety and environmental advice.
2. Development and delivery of safety and environmental training programmes.
3. Awareness of current safety and environmental developments including any changes in legislation.
4. Managing arrangements for consultation with BU employees on SHE matters.
5. Development and roll out of company safety and environment initiatives.
6. Carry out safety inspections and audits.
7. Carrying out accident and incident investigation.
8. Tracking actions arising from incident investigations.
9. Provide safety and environmental information for bids.
10. Develop and deliver training in the areas of safety management, safe systems of work, risk assessment, carrying and lifting, control of contractors, Learning From Experience etc.
11. Travel to other sites (c.25.nr) at which NUVIA have a presence, to attend meetings carry out inspections, surveys, audits and investigations (3/5 days per week).
12. Support Award nomination entries such as RoSPA.
13. Support external audits carried out by accreditation bodies or Clients.

Qualifications

1. Engineering/Science qualification (HNC, HND, Degree);
2. NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent (desirable);
3. Member of IOSH (desirable).

Experience

1. Experience within health & safety position previously;
2. Demonstrable experience in construction/site-based projects.
