A leading engineering firm in Burton on the Wolds is seeking a candidate to work alongside the Safety, Health, and Environment Manager. The role involves promoting a positive health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with SHE legislation, and assisting with risk assessments and training. Ideal candidates will have a proactive attitude towards SHE management and effective communication skills. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to the company's sustainability goals and promote workplace safety.
You will work with the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Manager to promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the Business, ensuring employee safety, harm prevention, and health. This role will develop to enable the successful candidate to understand and learn the SHE standards within the business, in accordance with current legislation and company policies and procedures. You will ensure the business, managers, and employees comply with all SHE legislation and that SHE policies and practices are followed. Working alongside the SHE Manager, you will facilitate the day-to-day SHE operations and learn how to contribute to planning, implementing, monitoring, and reviewing safety measures by collaborating with managers, employees, site operatives, and safety representatives.
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting directly to the local SHE Manager.
- Working closely with the factory operations management team.
- Learning from the SHE team to provide specialist advice on statutory SHE requirements.
- Assisting with writing safety risk assessments, including COSHH, Manual Handling, and work equipment assessments.
- Supporting compliance with ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards.
- Supporting SHE statistics and reports.
- Ensuring compliance with quality systems, including issuing and tracking corrective actions following SHE audits.
- Promoting a positive SHE culture and continuous improvement, developing SHE policies and procedures.
- Assisting managers and supervisors with risk assessments to ensure they are current and effective.
- Assessing training needs and providing SHE training, including toolbox talks.
- Assisting with accident and incident investigations, root cause analysis, and action plan implementation.
- Sharing lessons learned from incidents and near misses.
- Collecting data for key performance indicators and escalating concerns as needed.
- Supporting the company's Net Zero and ESG policies.
Requirements include:
- Competence in written and verbal English.
- Willingness to undergo training such as NEBOSH/IOSH/IEMA or CIEH.
- Knowledge of current SHE laws and legislation is advantageous.
- Experience with SHE management systems is advantageous.
- A proactive attitude towards SHE management and a willingness to learn.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, influencing, and negotiating skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Problem-solving ability with attention to detail.
