Job summary

UK Power Networks Services in London is seeking a Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Advisor on a permanent basis. You will provide competent SHE advice to staff, contractors and the public in line with the company policy.

The role requires a NEBOSH Certificate, experience in SHE, and a valid UK driving licence. Rail industry background is preferred; the position is office/field-based in the London region.

You will report to the Lead SHE Advisor and will work within UK Power Network Services based in the London region. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £68,144, excellent benefits and a bonus of 3%.

Job Purpose

To give competent health, safety and sustainability advice to advisors, Managers, staff, contractors, clients and the general public to promote the requirements of the health and safety management system.

Principal Accountabilities
  • You will provide Health, Safety, Sustainability and Environmental advice to other advisors, managers, employees, contractors and the general public.
  • You will maintain the UK Power Networks Services 'safety relationship' with our Clients.
  • You will contribute to the review of existing and development of new processes and communicates relevant changes to those affected as produced by the Central SHE Team
  • You will interpret all SHE procedures, drives implementation and monitors to ensure implementation and application within the directorate. This will also include any client procedures.
  • You will monitor compliance with SHE procedures and legal and moral obligations
  • You will participate in Stay Safe, Health, Security & Environment Committee (HESEC), Risk Management, Client SHE Forums or specific committees and Safety Action Teams.
  • You will work with the management team to implement realistic short/long-term goals, advise on priorities, document observing the Directorate SHE Strategy/Action Plan and provide on going monitoring of performance
  • You will provide a monitoring function to ensure that contractors engaged and services provided exceed our expectations concerning SHE
  • You will engage and consult with Union Safety Representatives and Non Union Safety Representatives including participation at HESECs and Safety Action Teams and other relevant forums
  • You will participate in and co-ordinates compliance audits of legislative requirements and new amended SHE procedures observing Business Systems procedures and external auditors. Communicating actions required to rectify non conformances
  • You will assist with the development to provide appropriate SHE training and communication materials relating to new procedures for implementation/communication to employees and contractors.
  • You will help deliver SHE specific training and awareness courses including induction course at the training schools and occupational health/wellbeing promotion.
  • You will support the SHE incident investigation process by participating in investigations.
  • You will review method statements, providing guidance on SHE matters.
  • You will undertake regular random inspections/audits (Behavioural Exchanges) to monitor performance of field teams and identifies issues requiring improvements and good performance.
  • You will be a coach to the business conducting inspections/audits and provide support.
  • You will, together with the Operational Assurance Team, help monitor compliance with safe systems of work and supporting the Worker Accreditation Scheme
  • You will monitor workplace facilities to ensure they are aligned with company facilities management procedures and consistent with environmental requirements
  • You will monitor the provision and maintenance of vehicles and more general transport arrangements.
  • You will monitor and champions SHE management in the business
  • You will provide SHE reports to managers.
Nature And Scope

The main function of the post holders role is to give SHE assistance/advice on the London Underground Limited Project, as well as working across other areas of the business, in delivering the company H&S Policy requirements.

You will also lead and advise the business sectors to achieve coordinated Health, Safety and Environmental improvements.

You will represent us at operational and senior management level with external partners and provide cover for colleagues within the Services SHE Team.

Essential
KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERINCE:
  • Experience of SHE
  • Hold a minimum of National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Certificate
  • Work experience which covers the main activities undertaken by staff and contractors working in the UK Power Networks Services Directorate and have or previously have held operational competencies
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence
  • Rail access passes and licence (able to attain)
  • Previous experience in the rail industry
Desirable
  • Hold, or be working towards, an IOSH in Managing Your Environmental Responsibilities
  • Can demonstrate experience being a team player
  • IT software packages

Please note this position does not offer blended working - office/field based.
