Job description

PLEASE NOTE: LEICESTERSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL IS NOT THE EMPLOYER FOR THIS JOB. YOU WILL BE SELF-EMPLOYED. WE WILL SEND YOU REFERRALS OF CLIENTS WHICH YOU CAN CHOOSE TO ACCEPT OR DECLINE AS YOU WISH.

Contract Type: Self-employed - we will send you referrals of clients which you can choose to accept or decline as you wish

Hours: Depends on the placements undertaken (you can support up to 3 people at any one time)

Rate: An allowance will be paid for each placement undertaken (e.g., the allowance for 3 long-term placements can be up to £1,647 per week)

Location: Home based (you must live in Leicestershire, not Leicester city)

What is a Shared Lives Carer?

Leicestershire Shared Lives Service offers a unique approach in the Adult Social Care sector. Our carers provide person-centred services tailored to the needs of their clients, either in their own home or in the community, offering a natural and real-life experience. Our carers are passionate, dedicated, and committed to enhancing their clients' lives while enjoying their work.

As a Shared Lives Carer, you will support adults with social care and support needs, including dementia, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, behavioural needs, or mental health issues. The level of support you provide can be flexible:

  • Long-term placement (living in your home full-time for 28 days or more).
  • Short break (overnight or full-time support for up to 4 weeks).
  • Day support (activities for 3-6 hours).

Clients require sole use of a bedroom and are treated as part of the household. They often have their own interests and may attend day services, college, or work, giving you time for personal interests or family.

Shared Lives Leicestershire is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission. Regular visits ensure the quality and safety of placements are maintained.

Responsibilities of a Shared Lives Carer:
  • Provide a safe, supportive home environment tailored to the clients' needs and interests.
  • Complete mandatory and any necessary specialist training.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Shared Lives team, external agencies, and families.
  • Keep accurate records of support provided, including financial transactions, medication, routines, and support plans.
  • Promote equal opportunities and ensure health, safety, and welfare.
