About the Role

Information Technology provides and supports all central University IT services and is responsible for the institution's Technical Infrastructure. In addition to this service and support provision, IT develops systems to support the business requirements of the organisation.

The SharePoint Team are part of the Infrastructure Products Team and are responsible for the architectural development, maintenance, and support of the SharePoint Online for the Open University.
This involves the support and administration of SharePoint, providing advice and guidance to its users, including the OU’s Information Architecture, Collaboration sites and the Intranet. The Team also builds business applications using the Power Platform tools (including PowerApps, Power Automate and Power BI) and is responsible for process automation.
Information Technology are seeking two SharePoint Systems Developers to support and develop Microsoft SharePoint Online and Power Platform technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing technical support for the SharePoint Online environment and understanding business and customer requirements.
• To provide solutions to the business in SharePoint Online including the associated file structure, metadata, workflow and appropriate access controls adhering to Microsoft and industry best practices and standards.
• Be a resource of expertise in the development of SharePoint and Microsoft Power Platform tools, ensuring continual improvement.
• To assist in providing solutions to the business utilising the Microsoft Power Platform tools (including PowerApps, Power Automate and Power BI) and process automation.

Skills and Experience

Essential

Knowledge work and other relevant experience

• Experience in systems administration, development, and operations

• Provide SharePoint administration and technical support for Microsoft SharePoint Online and related Office 365 technologies.

• Skilled in SharePoint Online

• Ability to record and analyse information and identify appropriate solutions.

• Liaise with business users to gather requirements, prepare specifications, and develop new and existing SharePoint Online sites.

• Evaluate and initiate SharePoint Online solutions which innovate on and/or improve existing infrastructure.

• Work with SharePoint developers to maximise re-use of the unstructured content held within the information architecture.

• Understanding of analysing requirements for developing and using Power Platform technologies including process automation.

• Successful record in the implementation of infrastructure services.

• Ability to produce design specifications and documentation that meet user requirements.

• Problem solving – experience in finding resolution to any given problem and/or working with a team to identify the appropriate response to achieve the best outcome.

Desirable

• Educated to Degree level or equivalent professional qualification.

• Microsoft certification in SharePoint and/or Power Platform.

• Good knowledge and understanding of Microsoft 365 applications and capabilities.

• Experience of web-page content management and development.

• Understanding and use of SharePoint administration tools, (for example, ShareGate Desktop).

• Experience with UiPath process automation software.

• Understanding of Service Management standards including Incident, Problem and Change management using ISEB ITIL Foundation (ideally at v4.0).

It is anticipated that a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office. However, as this role is contractually aligned to our Milton Keynes office it is expected that some attendance in the office will be required when necessary and in response to business needs.
