Job description

An opportunity has arisen for a permanent full-time (part-time will be considered) B6 Sexual Health Nurse post to work across Leicester City. Leicester Sexual Health Service is a 6-day a week service and the post holder will be required to be flexible to service needs including working evenings and one Saturday a month.

We offer development packages, in-house training, and a supportive approach for all staff within the service. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual with previous sexual health experience who possesses excellent communications skills, is able to work under their own initiative, and has the skills to manage difficult and sensitive situations.

You must be non-judgemental in your approach, be able to deal with challenging and delicate situations, and have a good understanding of data protection and confidentiality. Also, you must be committed to the delivery of high standards of patient care.

This role will be based at Haymarket Health in the Haymarket Shopping Centre, Leicester, and will include assisting and chaperoning clinical staff for procedures and having your own 'no-talk testing' clinic. Maintaining excellent standards of infection control, phlebotomy, and microscopy. The setting up and closing down of the clinic is also part of the role.

The Sexual Health Service covers Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Leicester, and is a highly complex and sensitive environment. The service provision is designed to provide safe, supportive, and confidential settings to help clients assess their sexual health needs and make informed choices within a framework of high standards of care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Be responsible for setting high standards of care within the resources available and to review and monitor these on a continuous basis, through the process of audit, to ensure continuing quality of care.
  • Contribute to the delivery of evidence-based personalised and compassionate care which places quality at the heart of specialist practice. Care will be responsive to individual needs and reflect current local protocols and national guidelines.
  • Lead and undertake nurse-led clinics working alongside nursing colleagues, to ensure continuity of service provision.
  • Assess the contraceptive need of the client, taking a comprehensive medical, gynaecological, sexual, and social history as appropriate.
  • Undertake risk assessment, clinical examination, and testing for sexually transmitted infection, and issue treatments under PGD or as an independent prescriber.
  • Assess and deliver contraceptive care as required, including pregnancy testing and contraception provision of all methods, including LARCs.
  • Fit and remove sub-dermal implants competently or work towards this.
  • Work as part of a team and independently in nurse-led and outreach community settings as required.
  • Provide a high-quality and holistic service and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Provide high-quality genito-urinary medical care to patients, including the assessment, examination, diagnosis, and management of common genito-urinary conditions in line with current guidelines.
  • Provide a full range of contraception choices to patients, in line with current guidance.
  • Issue selected treatments and contraception under advanced Patient Group Directions or as an Independent non-medical prescriber.
