Job summary

Gap Personnel Limited on behalf of our client in Ironbridge, Telford is seeking a Sewing Operative to join the production team. You will operate an industrial lock stitch sewing machine to sew soft toys or garments, following job instructions and ensuring quality.

Hours are 7am-4pm, Monday to Friday, with flexible start/finish times if needed; the role offers a pathway to a permanent contract for the right candidate and starts at £12.71 per hour.

Qualifications

• Experience operating industrial lock stitch sewing machines on garments or toys.
• Ability to follow instructions and guidance for each sewing job.
• Ability to adjust machine settings to suit materials and finishes.
• Check finished articles against patterns and bills of materials.

Responsibilities

• Sew soft toys or garments using an industrial lock stitch sewing machine and occasional overlockers.
• Follow job instructions and guide material through the machine, correcting mistakes.
• Alter machine settings for material type and finish and change threads as needed.
• Ensure output matches pattern instructions and participate in sample prep with product developers.
• Keep sewing machines and equipment clean and in good working order and support team needs.

Hours of work: 7am till 4pm Monday to Friday, flexible start and finish times if needed

Sewing together all or part of a soft toy or garments
Using an industrial lock stitch sewing machine, as well as occasional use of other machines
such as over lockers
Following instructions for each sewing job Guiding the material through the machine, correcting any mistakes as you go
Altering machine settings to suit the type of material and finish required, changing threads
etc.
Checking that a finished article matches the pattern instructions or bill of materials
Working with Product Developer to make up samples for new lines
Ensuring that sewing machines and other equipment are kept clean and in good working
order
Communicating with colleagues to determine the specifications, job needs, and job
preferences
Willingness to assist in other areas of production, as necessary, to support the overall team
Working to Company policies and standards for Health and Safety, Quality etc.
Continuously aim to maximise efficiency in your work and minimise waste
