The Settlements Team is responsible for delivering c£800m of annual settlement processes in a timely and compliant way on behalf of the National Energy System Operator (NESO). This includes the back-office settlement and associated reporting for Ancillary Services payments and Electricity Trading activity. The performance of these outputs is essential to ensuring we maintain credibility for NESO with our stakeholders and customers, ultimately having a direct impact on regulatory performance.

The Financial Control and Risk Lead will have a small team of analysts and be responsible for the delivery of several reports, audit actions and maintenance of risk and controls. This would suit a strong analytical and customer focused individual with a capability to interrogate data and deliver improvements on existing processes working with onshore and offshore teams.

This role will suit a resilient and ambitious team member, looking to build their leadership and ensuring the ongoing high performance of the team.

This role can be based in Warwick or Wokingham, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

Key accountabilities
  • Providing integration, analysis and reporting of data from settlements databases and spreadsheets to ensure adherence to audit requests, ASROP and any other financial control reports.
  • SME guidance/advice on behalf of the team and must support team on a number of regulatory and internal financial reporting.
  • Reviewing the settlement processes and reporting, driving end to end efficiencies in line with financial policies and controls.
  • Supporting Settlements Operations Lead (L8) with operational duties where required to ensure ancillary services settlements processes are delivered.
  • Acting as Delegation for Settlement Operations Manager and supports decision making.
About you

  • Passionate about numerical/data analysis with a strong attention to detail and focus on data accuracy.
  • Experience of leadership and dealing with both internal and external stakeholders, including industry participants and customers.
  • Practical experience of database queries, scripts and strong IT skills, particularly with Excel.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to manage multiple issues and prioritise workload, whilst also managing and supporting other analysts within the operational team.
About what you'll get

A competitive salary between £62,000 - £72,000pa – dependent on experience and capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on company performance, 26 days annual leave as standard and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.

About the National Energy System Operator (NESO)

In Autumn of 2024, the ESO transitioned to National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator is the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system.

NESO, including all of its existing roles, are now at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users’ need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them.

The organisation is set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As was the ESO, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.
