Freelance Setting Out Engineer South Shields

We re currently seeking an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join a major port infrastructure project in South Shields on a freelance basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for a capable and reliable engineer to work on a high-profile marine and civil works scheme, contributing to essential port improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out setting out duties for civil engineering works including piling, drainage, earthworks, and marine structures

• Interpret and work from construction drawings and technical plans

• Ensure dimensional accuracy and quality control on-site

• Maintain daily site records and ensure compliance with health & safety regulations

• Coordinate with site managers, subcontractors, and the project team

• Conduct site surveys and produce as-built records where necessary

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on heavy civil or marine infrastructure projects

• Strong knowledge of setting out techniques and equipment (e.g., Total Station, GPS)

• CSCS card (essential)

• Right to work in the UK

• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively on a dynamic site

• Relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering or related discipline
