Job summary

Kenton Learning Centre in Harrow is seeking a Sessional Tutor Adult Learning to plan and deliver community courses across the borough. You will support learners to achieve outcomes in a safe, inclusive environment, with sessions during day, evening or weekend at community venues.

Role focuses on planning, delivering, assessing and recording progress, with emphasis on accessibility and learner progression through diverse settings across Harrow.

Qualifications

• Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality learning activities.
• Use assessments to inform planning and measure learner progress.
• Complete administrative records (registers, lesson plans, records of progress).
• Develop activities/resources that engage and motivate learners.
• Identify barriers to learning including literacy and language needs.
• Provide information/advice about course placement and progression.

Job description

The Sessional Tutor Adult Learning will plan and deliver adult community learning courses for individuals and groups across Harrow. The role supports learners to achieve their learning outcomes in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment, following the Adult, Community and Family Learning Quality Improvement Framework. Courses may take place during the day, evening or weekend at community venues across the borough.

Duties

• Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality learning activities that enable learners to achieve their learning outcomes.
• Use initial, formative and summative assessments to inform planning and measure learner progress.
• Complete administrative records, including registers, lesson plans, schemes of work and records of progress.
• Develop appropriate activities and resources that engage, challenge and motivate learners.
• Identify individual needs and barriers to learning, including literacy, language and other core skills needs.
• Provide impartial information and advice about course placement and learner progression.
• Support examinations, assessments, enrolments, certification, quality assurance and continuing professional development activities.

• Recognised teaching qualification relevant to the subject area and teaching adults.
• Proven experience of teaching within an adult learning or further education setting.
• Knowledge of effective teaching, learning and assessment in the adult learning sector.
• Understanding of new learners, learning styles and lifelong learning.
• Good interpersonal, presentation and teaching skills, with the ability to listen and relate to learners.

• Understanding of diversity and equality issues within the post-16 education sector.
• Experience of working with community and voluntary organisations.
• Experience of teaching an accredited programme, where relevant.
