About Us

Newham is an incredibly diverse borough with a very young population and is experiencing considerable regeneration as part of the Olympic legacy. There are over 86,000 children and young people in Newham, and we aim for each of them to have equal life chances as young people in other parts of London.

This post is employed by the London Borough of Newham, which was the first London borough to offer a fully integrated 0-19 health and social care service, providing School Nursing services, Health Visiting, and Family Nurse Partnership since 2017. Our CYPS directorate delivers the 0-19 Healthy Child programme through the Children’s Health Service.

The Children's Health 0-19 Service was rated 'Good' in all areas during their last CQC inspection in 2021.

Newham is one of 75 local authorities trialing a new-style family support centre called a “Family Hub,” which aims to improve coordination among services such as health (antenatal, maternity, health visitor, school nurses), early years and childcare, education, parenting support, safety, and relationship support.

About You

The candidate will/must have:

  • Breastfeeding Counsellor or Peer Supporter working towards BFC or IBCLC qualification.
  • In-depth knowledge of infant feeding, including lactation, the value of breastfeeding, and common issues, with awareness of how to support mothers to establish and maintain breastfeeding.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; team-oriented, able to work independently.
  • Proficiency in IT and common software packages: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Professionalism, emotional intelligence, and effective communication skills in diverse situations.
  • Ability to travel to workshops, Baby Feeding Cafes, and other events in Newham as required.

Please note: If you are NOT a passport holder of the country for the vacancy, you might need a work permit. Check our Blog for more information.
