A leading healthcare organization in London is seeking a Specialty Registrar in clinical radiology or oncology. The role involves supporting the review and development of PET-CT clinical commissioning policies. Candidates should have a medical qualification, experience in PET-CT imaging, and knowledge of specialised commissioning. This part-time role offers flexible working arrangements, with two clinical sessions per week until March 2026.
Cancer is one of six national Programmes of Care overseeingthe commissioning of specialised and highly specialised services. The role ofthe Programme of Care (PoC) is to develop and deliver a comprehensive workprogramme that achieves demonstrable improvements in the quality, equity, valueand outcomes of commissioned specialised services. To do this the PoC teamworks in partnership with both internal and external stakeholders, includingcancer charities, specialised commissioning colleagues in the national andregional teams and the national cancer programme.
The appointment is offered on a remunerated sessional basis, two Programmed Activity (PA) Equivalent per week until 31 March 2026 (please note this is a sessional role providing support to NHS England, with reimbursement provided for the role on the basis of the appointees existing NHS pay scale / point).
The 2015 clinical commissioning policy for PET-CT is now beingreviewed and updated. Due to the complexities around the commissioning ofPET-CT, NHS England is seeking to develop a new methods process for reviewingand maintaining the PET-CT clinical commissioning policy going forward.
The role holder will support a review of the PET-CTclinicalcommissioning policy to ensure that NHS England is commissioning the rightscans for the right indications. This will involve the development ofrecommendations following analysis of multiplefactors including published evidence, availability of other diagnostic tests,tracer sustainability and supply, potential benefit to patients, capacity andcosts.
The role holder will work with the Cancer Programme of Careand national Clinical Policy Team to review the current clinical commissioningpolicy ensuring alignment with clinical pathways, national guidance, andevolving diagnostic needs. This includes critically reviewing proposals forradiotracer applications, and indications to support evidence-baseddecision-making and strategic planning.
The role holder will also support the developmentof a bespoke methodology for evaluating potential policy amendments, newindications and radiotracers to include the establishment of a PET-CT directorywhich will form the basis of the new Clinical Commissioning Policy.
The role holderwill be closely supported by the National ClinicalPolicy and the Cancer Programme of Care teams.
