Overview

The Role

We are looking to recruit flexible and adaptable library assistants to support various contracts on a short-term basis as and when required. Based from HMP Onley, our Library Assistants are responsible for carrying out routine library duties such as lending, shelving, developing displays and supporting customers with diverse library and information requirements, under the direction of our Library Manager. The role provides a support service to customers to assist with their reading choices and online services and is responsible for handling queries, signposting appropriately and providing guidance and direction to enable customers to locate the required information. The role also contributes to outreach library services, events and programmes.

  • Carry out routine library duties (lending, shelving, developing displays) and support customers with diverse library and information requirements under the Library Manager’s direction.
  • Provide a support service to customers to assist with reading choices and online services.
  • Handle queries, signpost appropriately, and provide guidance to enable customers to locate required information.

Qualifications
  • GCSEs or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English.

  • Interest and awareness of current publishing trends, reader recommendations and titles for a variety of ability levels.
  • Understanding of customer service principles and practice.
  • Experience of working within a custodial environment and experience of creating learning resources is desirable.
