Job summary

South Thames College's School of Employability is seeking a Sessional Lecturer to teach GCSE Maths and Maths Functional Skills to learners aged 16-19. You will deliver lessons in line with schemes of work and assessment schedules, using innovative technologies to enhance teaching and learning.

Applicants should hold a degree in Mathematics and a teaching qualification or be willing to work towards one. You will motivate learners, monitor progress and maintain strong organisational skills;

Qualifications

  • Excellent teaching skills in GCSE and Functional Skills Mathematics for 16-19-year-olds.
  • Bring energy, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for maths education.
  • Able to motivate learners and monitor progress effectively.
  • Strong planning and administrative skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver GCSE Maths and Functional Skills lessons to 16-19 students.
  • Develop schemes of work and assessment schedules in line with college policies.
  • Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Utilise innovative technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Maintain high professional standards and manage competing priorities.

Job description

The School of Employability at South Thames College is looking to appoint a Sessional Lecturer to teach a combination of GCSE Maths and Maths Functional Skills. The GCSE teaching will be predominantly to students aged 16-19 years of age.

You will deliver teaching in line with agreed schemes of work and assessment schedules, developing and implementing effective assessment strategies in accordance with college policies and awarding body requirements. You will keep abreast of developments within your specialist subject areas as well as current practices and innovations in education and training.

As our Lecturer, you will hold a degree or relevant professional qualification in an appropriate subject area, together with a teaching qualification or a willingness to work towards one. You will have excellent teaching skills in GCSE and Functional Skills Mathematics to students aged 16-19 years of age. We are looking for someone who brings energy, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for both the subject and education. You will be able to support and motivate learners, monitor their progress effectively, and utilise innovative technologies to enhance teaching and learning.

With high personal standards and expectations, you will possess strong planning, preparation, organisational and administrative skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities while working effectively to deadlines.
