Job summary

A leading early learning center in Canterbury is seeking a passionate and creative educator to join their team. The role involves supporting child-led play and working closely with whānau, encouraging engagement in educational programs, and facilitating a nurturing environment. The ideal candidate will possess important qualifications and have a strong commitment to early childhood education principles, especially in relation to Te Whāriki and local cultural values.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 3 qualification or higher or an early childhood qualification of Level 4 or higher.
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate or be willing to achieve this.
  • Hold a primary teaching qualification and be prepared to undertake a Playcentre Bridging Course.

Responsibilities

  • Support whānau in the use of te reo Māori and facilitate learning activities.
  • Guide child-led play and mentor parents in their teaching roles.
  • Open the sessions and manage daily activities.

Job description

We’re seeking a vibrant, motivated, creative, and passionate educator with a sparkling personality to join our well-resourced centre to support our tamariki, parents, and whānau in facilitating child-led play.

You will work alongside our centre whānautanga to open the sessions and guide activities, facilitate learning for our members and tamariki while role modeling child-led play and positive guidance.

The successful candidate will support whānau in the use of te reo Māori, encourage participation in the Playcentre Education programme to increase qualification levels at our centre, and demonstrate the benefits of participating to whānau.

We are all about mentoring and supporting parents/whānau/members/tamariki as they explore and learn with their children during these very special years.

Start date: 14 July 2025.

Days & hours:

Tuesday and Thursday 10am to 2pm (including a 30-minute unpaid break). This is a permanent position during term time only.

Start and finish times may be negotiable between the hours of 9am and 2pm for the successful candidate.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Playcentre Course 3 qualification or higher or an early childhood qualification of Level 4 or higher.
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate or be willing to achieve this.
  • Hold a primary teaching qualification and be prepared to undertake a Playcentre Bridging Course.

  • Passion for empowering and engaging with all whānau to feel a sense of belonging on our sessions.
  • Knowledge of ECE regulations or willingness to upskill.
  • Ability to use technology.
