Job Description

Role Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Valve or Actuator Technician or a skilled Service Engineer with hydraulic, mechanical, or electrical and controls expertise to further their career with a high-performing team. The company prides itself on delivering reliable products and outstanding service to clients worldwide, maintaining the highest standards in quality, safety, and technical excellence.

As a Service Engineer, you will play a key role in the complete lifecycle of actuator systems: overhaul, testing, repair, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting — whether in the factory or on customer sites, including offshore and hazardous environments.

Key Responsibilities

Factory Production, Overhaul & Repairs

  • Overhaul, strip-down, test, and recertify all types of actuators, including third-party equipment, to meet company and client specifications.
  • Assemble, wire, and test new actuator systems and control assemblies in line with engineering drawings and build standards.
  • Execute all work scopes in accordance with internal procedures, risk assessments, and hazard assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records for all production, repair, and certification activities.

Site Service, Commissioning & Troubleshooting

  • Carry out installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and fault resolution at customer sites in the UK and worldwide, including offshore installations.
  • Perform site surveys, prepare detailed technical reports, and provide practical advice to clients to ensure optimal operation and long-term reliability.
  • Plan and coordinate shutdown work, project-based tasks, and urgent service requirements, working flexibly to minimise downtime for customers.

Technical Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company policies, procedures, and relevant industry standards.
  • Conduct and participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and any safety requirements specific to offshore and hazardous areas.
  • For electrical and controls work, ensure full compliance with ATEX/IECEx and CompEx requirements.

Teamwork & Professional Development

  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team within the workshop and on customer sites.
  • Contribute ideas for improving processes, share knowledge with colleagues, and seek advice when required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by feeding back technical issues and customer insights to engineering and production teams.

Key Skills, Behaviours & Attributes

  • Proven experience as a Valve/Actuator Technician or relevant Service Engineer, ideally covering hydraulic, mechanical, or electrical and controls systems.
  • Fully competent in overhauling, testing, servicing, and troubleshooting a broad range of actuator types, including third-party equipment.
  • Confident planning and coordinating work scopes, including site surveys, shutdowns, and commissioning projects.
  • A strong understanding of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental standards and safe working practices in a workshop and site environment.
  • Accurate, quality-conscious attitude and the ability to deliver work to high standards consistently.
  • Strong problem-solving and planning skills, with the initiative to work independently when required.
  • Good communication skills, with a collaborative approach to teamwork and sharing knowledge within the wider business.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Relevant trade or engineering qualification in chosen discipline (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
  • Previous experience as a mechanical fitter, valve/actuator technician, or similar hands-on engineering role.
  • Valid CompEx certification (EX01–EX04 minimum ) for Electrical & Controls roles.
  • Offshore survival training (BOSIET/FOET) and valid offshore medical certification, or willingness to obtain these.
  • Full UK driving licence and valid passport for UK and international travel.

Travel Requirements

  • Regular travel to customer sites in the UK and overseas, including onshore and offshore facilities.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, or unsociable shifts when required for commissioning or urgent service needs.
