Clinical Care
Workingon their own initiative, the post holder will contribute to the efficient andeffective provision of services within the CBU by:-
Being responsible for the day to dayoperational management within the CBU.
Ensuring good communication across theteam, the wider Trust and with external organisations and members of thepublic, including transmission of confidential information.
Taking an active approach in supportingthe Associate Director of Operations in ensuring services are delivered to ahigh standard.
Monitoring the budget within the areasof responsibilities, ensuring appropriate use of resources to gain best valuee.g. procurement of supplies and equipment
Co-ordinate and work with otherdepartments to ensure patient care flows are appropriate.
Meet key performance objectives andtargets within the CBU and support the Trust as a whole in meeting the overalltargets and key performance indicators.
Act as lead for service developments andaudit activity, along with any research initiatives.
Managerial
The post holder will be responsible for theleadership and operational management of service delivery, for example inallocating resources, and ensuring appropriate management of patient safetyincidents.

JOB PURPOSETo provide effectiveoperational management, leadership, expertise, advice and support to the CBU toenable the delivery of CBU performance and business objectives. The role willwork alongside matrons in ensuring that performance and business continues todeliver the highest quality of care to patients and their families to deliverNational Targets.
Work with the AssociateDirector of Operations, Clinical Director and Associate Director of Nursing toensure the safe, effective and efficient overall management, to providecapacity and demand information to plan and implement service delivery.
The post-holder will be responsible forensuring that key business, quality, financial, service effectiveness andperformance targets are maintained. The role will require close liaison withthe other CBUs in providing comprehensive support within specialty areas.
Development of business cases andcapital bids to support service development initiatives and assist theAssociate Director of Operations and Clinical Director in the business planningcycle.
To consistentlymaintain and improve patient care and experience, as service change isimplemented.
To provide day to dayoperational management of the CBUs.
To work closely with medical staff toensure that departments runs efficiently.
ROLE OF YOURDEPARTMENTThe role will be to support theoperational and strategic aims of the Clinical Service Units, developing andmanaging a culture of change which drives efficiency, effectiveness and improvepatient outcomes.
ORGANISATION CHARTRESPONSIBILITIES(Budgetary/Supervisory)The post holder willwork in close liaison with the Associate Director of Operations and theClinical Director to consistently ensure the quality of patient care throughefficiently and effectively managing the department. The post holder will havecontinuing responsibility for the department including management of identifiedstaff and delegated financial resources.
The post holder will beexpected to supervise and line manage designated teams within the clinicalnetwork team.
Budget manager asdesignated and authorised signatory.
The post holder willlead in the interpretation, analysis and implementation of national and localpolicy and procedure, to ensure expected and explicit standards of clinical andmanagerial practice are in place.
KEYRESULTS AREAS (Including Responsibilities and Authority)The post holder will have responsibility forthe setting of service and managerial standards of care.

Being involved in budget setting,identify cost pressures within service areas in conjunction with the ClinicalDirector and take appropriate actions.
Prepare service development and capitalbids and business cases using activity, quality and financial information.Ensure they are cost effective and consistent with priorities within theTrusts strategic framework.
Co-ordinate and work with otherdepartments to ensure patient care flows are appropriate.
Analyse and monitor information toassess performance against service level agreements/contracts in order toachieve required service provision.
Collate, analyse and interpret a rangeof financial activity, staffing and other information to support and informservice planning and delivery.
Meet key performance objectives andtargets within the CBU and support the Trust as a whole in meeting the overalltargets and key performance indicators.
Act as lead for service developments andaudit activity, along with any research initiatives.
Ensure that complaints, incidents andissues identified are actioned appropriately and in a timely manner, to ensurecontinuous quality improvement. Lead complaint investigations and preparecomplaint responses and action plans using analytical skills to identify keyissues and assess how to resolve them.
Facilitate the development of effectivemulti-disciplinary teams within the CBU. Communicate change principles andpractices to staff and overcome resistance to change using listening,compromising and persuasive skills as change management tools.
Develop excellent working relationshipswith internal and external staff at all levels in order to communicate andimplement service development and NHS policy.
Represent the Trust at relevantcorporate and clinical networks both in own right and on behalf of theAssociate Director of Operations.
To assist with any other duties as seennecessary by the Associate Director of Operations which are consistent with thegrade.
Work is managed rather than supervised.Manages own workload.
Develop own skills through training andattend mandatory training events as relevant within the sphere of the role.
Strictly adhere to all hospitalpolicies, in particular, confidentiality of patient information, at all times.
Be aware of any 18 week and 6 weekperformance issues within the designated specialities taking action to ensurecompliance, escalating risks in capacity to the Clinical Director and AssociateDirector of Operations.

Demonstrate a professional approach towork and act in accordance with theleadership behaviours agreed for the Trust.
Create an environment which ischallenging, stimulating and supportive to staff and ensure new initiativeswhere appropriate.
