Are you an experienced NHS operational manager looking for an exciting opportunity to progress your career in a cutting-edge, world-leading specialist cancer centre? Then this job may be just what you are looking for.

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced operational manager to lead the Radiology Directorate on a fixed-term contract for 12 months (maternity leave cover). The ideal candidate will have experience or a passion to develop expertise in radiology services, working alongside the Clinical Director and clinical teams. They will provide compassionate, robust management and innovative problem-solving approaches to service improvement.

The Service Manager will be responsible and accountable for the strategic, operational, performance, and business management of the Radiology directorate. They will drive high standards and efficiency in a highly functioning, supported, and developed team.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Strategic Planning and Service Development: Develop and implement long-term service strategies and policies aligned with the Trust's needs, legislation, and healthcare guidance. Lead service planning and coordinate objectives to meet local and national priorities.
  2. Service/Operational Management: Coordinate operational management with clinical and departmental leaders, ensuring performance targets are met within budgets. Lead performance management and develop strategies to improve service delivery.
  3. Service Improvement: Manage patient experience enhancements and service efficiency using redesign techniques. Lead projects to improve healthcare services and ensure progress reports are submitted to the Divisional Board.
  4. Financial Management & Business Planning: Manage a £6.3 million budget, develop business cases, and contribute to budget setting. Implement cost improvement programs and monitor service provision against performance indicators.
  5. Human Resources Management: Implement HR policies, develop workforce plans, and ensure effective recruitment, appraisal, and performance management processes. Promote flexible working and staff involvement in quality improvements.
  6. Communication: Communicate complex information effectively with stakeholders, negotiate, and develop engagement strategies. Present to staff and public audiences.
  7. Education and Development: Ensure training plans are in place, participate in audits and research, and support staff development.
  8. General: Participate in on-call and site management rotations.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 4 years' NHS experience, with at least two at a middle management level (ideally 8a). They should demonstrate strong service, change, and people management skills, with a proven track record of achieving objectives and continuous improvement. A degree is required, with a preference for those working towards MSc in health management/leadership. High emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, and resilience are essential.
