This is an exciting opportunity to join the Mental Health Urgent Care Services in Berkshire. As Service Manager, you will be responsible for leading the Psychological Medicines Services (PMS) for the Trust and become part of the Senior Leadership Team for the MH Urgent Care Services.

Supporting two Acute Trusts in Reading and Slough, working across 2 ICBs and in partnership with six Local Authorities, the Service Manager will ensure that patients requiring mental health support in both the Emergency Department and wards within the Acute Trusts receive timely assessments, interventions, referrals into other services, and signposting to other organisations as required. Proactive management is required to continuously enhance the service offered, working with the Acute Trust, Police, SCAS, VCSE, and all other relevant partners to support patients presenting in crisis or needing other mental health support. Relationship building and visible leadership are key to the successful administration of this post. The post is full time, working across a 5-day period, although the Trust does support flexible working requests that meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide both clinical and managerial leadership at an operational level, ensuring the safe and effective provision of area services on a daily basis.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships within the Acute Trusts at Wexham Park Hospital (WPH), Slough and The Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH), Reading.
  • Provide and monitor clinical advice, training, and supervision for staff operating within Psychological Medicine Service (PMS) in the RBH and East Berkshire Psychological Medicines Service (EBPM) in WPH multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proactively support the Head of Service for the joint development and embedding of PMS clinical best practice, strategic and operational policies, procedures, and delivery of quality standards and performance targets.

Education/Qualifications/Training
  • Professional Registration (E.g. RMN, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist etc)

  • Demonstrable experience managing difficult situations with service users that have complex mental health conditions and challenging behaviours
  • Extensive experience managing serious incidents and situations concerning safeguarding, risk management, complaints, and formal investigations, including presenting evidence at court
  • Significant experience working within Psychological Medicines Services
  • Strong experience clinically supervising and mentoring staff as well as effectively resolving people and service performance issues
  • Experience at Band 8a, managing a Team and offering clinical and managerial leadership.

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites with minimal impact on daily productivity. Car owner/driver and possesses full UK driver's licence or evidence of ability to travel to designated base and other sites.
