Job description

We are seeking a committed and experienced Service Manager to take a leading role in managing and developing high-quality children's services. This is a pivotal role, ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the service, providing effective leadership to team managers and practitioners, and maintaining a strong focus on outcomes for children, young people, and their families. You will be responsible for ensuring that all services provided to children and families are compliant with relevant legislation, professional standards, and best practice guidance. In addition, you will deputise for the Head of Service when required.,

  • Provide strong leadership and management of Team Managers and practice staff, ensuring a consistent, high-quality service is delivered across the Children's Service.
  • Manage risk effectively and ensure appropriate responses to the needs and safety of children and families, working in a multi-agency environment.
  • Drive service improvement and innovation, ensuring services are continually reviewed and developed to meet the needs of the local community.
  • Lead on performance management, including high-quality supervision, appraisal, and support of staff to maintain excellent practice standards.
  • Take responsibility for recruitment, induction, training, and professional development of staff in line with Council policies and statutory requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure high standards of record keeping, auditing practices, and timely decision-making across the teams.
  • Lead and participate in inter-agency and internal meetings, ensuring actions are followed through and monitored effectively.
  • Ensure that service user feedback informs service development and quality improvement.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, business development, and setting of team and individual objectives and performance targets.

    You will be a qualified and experienced professional with a strong track record in delivering and managing children's social care services. You will have:
  • Proven experience in managing teams within children's services.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, safeguarding frameworks, and best practice standards.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and evidence-based practice.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with partners.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A recognised social work qualification and registration with the appropriate professional body (e.g., Social Work England).
