About the Role

Are you a highly skilled, motivated, and experienced Social Work leader passionate about making a difference for children? Join Wigan during an exciting time as we implement our new way of working.

Wigan adopted the Family Safeguarding Model in 2024, which emphasizes early help and supporting families holistically. We prioritize reducing caseloads to enable social workers to spend more quality time with families and encourage innovation in our practices.

As Service Lead for Family Safeguarding, you will oversee two service managers, providing strategic leadership to ensure children in need of help and protection receive appropriate support promptly. You will also continue our transformation journey and develop our families first partnership reforms to facilitate a whole-family approach.

About You

You will have a successful social work career with leadership experience and a passion for working collaboratively with partner organizations. Compassion, resilience, approachability, and a leadership style that fosters team safety and well-being are essential qualities.

About Us

Wigan Borough comprises 14 towns working together to create a vibrant community. Our strategy focuses on fairness, opportunity, and partnership to support our children, families, and residents. We are committed to positive, asset-based working practices and have been recognized with multiple awards, including Council of the Year.

We support flexible working arrangements and a blended approach to work locations, including home, office, or community settings. To apply, you must have the right to work in the UK; please verify your eligibility via GOV.UK.
