Overview

Service Engineer - Scientific Equipment. This leading analytical instrument provider has seen continuous growth and, with a pending retirement, is looking to bolster its UK service team. They are recognised for service delivery and offer some of the industry’s most advanced benchtop and floor-standing equipment, with a focus on meeting customers’ needs and upholding high standards of performance and quality.

  • Hours: Monday to Friday
Responsibilities
  • Work from a home office and cover the UK with occasional travel to Ireland when needed.
  • Attend 2-5 customer visits per week due to the complex nature of the equipment.
  • Install, commission and provide basic operator training to groups of 2-3 during new equipment installations. Some advanced equipment installations may take 2-3 days.
  • Visit major industry (15%) and academia (85%) clients; as skills develop this mix will change and may include limited hospital clients.
  • Decommission equipment for site relocations.
  • Conduct routine service and calibration work, as well as reactive maintenance, including diagnosis, fault finding and problem resolution.
  • Work on equipment with hardware and software values ranging from £100K to £2m.
  • Complete service visit reports.
  • Operate to a 2+ week service schedule.
  • Initial training will include shadowing and supporting experienced engineers in the field.
About You / Qualifications
  • Minimum 2+ years of service engineering experience (field-based preferred); broad mechanical and electrical exposure.
  • Open to site-based Technicians wishing to transition into the field if they have relatable instrument experience.
  • Experience working on complex equipment, e.g., Analytical Instruments, Optical Microscopes, Vision Inspection, Laser Deposition, Photonics, Sample Preparation, Electron Microscopes, Vacuum Pumps, SEM, TEM, High Voltage Systems (up to 300KV), Stepper Motors, Optics, Spectrometers, UHV Systems, Motion Control Technology, X-Ray Systems, XRF, XRD, CT Systems, Micro CT Systems, MRI Scanners, Particle Accelerators, Particle Analysis machines or similar.
  • Open to former RAF / Military engineers transitioning to the private sector, with adaptability and a drive to develop skills.
  • Strong communicator with a focus on excellent customer service.
  • Related engineering education (HNC, HND, Degree, or Apprenticeship) is essential; logical and methodical fault-finding and flexibility to travel within the UK (40% of time away from home – ~2 nights per week).
  • UK driving license is essential; right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is not offered.
