Your Role

What You'll Need

  • NVQ Level 3 or above in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience as a mechanical maintenance technician, mechanical fitter, mechanical maintenance engineer, etc.
  • Ideally, experience in heavy industry (chemicals, steel, power, oil & gas, metals, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with pumps, valves, and ideally regulators.

A large specialist organisation near Didcot, Oxford are looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join the established team to have responsibility for providing both technical support and assisting the team in performing building services and building fabric maintenance.

The key duties of the post are as follows:

  • Undertake the mechanical maintenance of Electrical / Mechanical and Building Services Infrastructure.
  • Assist with monitoring and testing duties, as required by the Statutory Authorities.
  • Problem solving and fault diagnosis on all site services, including air conditioning and air handling units, piped gases, hot and cold-water systems (including unvented and pressurised systems), MTHW/LTHW systems, Chilled Water, refrigeration, etc.
  • Liaison and supervision of external contractors, service engineers and suppliers, including sub-contractor technical audits.
  • Liaison / communication with various departments / teams across to safely achieve maintenance activities.
  • Carry out and assist with the preparation of safety risk assessments and method statements.
  • Participate in Health and Safety and Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate to the post.
  • Assist in the control of spares stock, as well identifying future spare requirements
  • Support the Senior Maintenance Technician where required and assist in completing the planned maintenance programme.
  • Plan individual workload and identify any potential resources (i.e. MEWP).
  • Undertake non maintenance duties (i.e. small project work) as and when the need arises.
  • You may be required to participate in the "on call" arrangements during commissioning and operation.

You should have experience from some (not all) of the following areas:

  • HVAC systems.
  • Process & Chilled Water systems.
  • LTHW/MTHW/Compressed Air systems.
  • Equipment controls and BMS (building management system).
  • Quality Control Systems, Work Planning and Safe Systems of work.
  • HSE legislation.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW Our Waste Water Recycling team are recruiting Mechanical Maintenance Technicians across the UK, with a focus on the following areas - Warwickshire, Leicestershire, West Midlands, Worcestershire, Gloucester, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire , as well as the other counties in the Severn Trent region. The position offers an opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking team working on a variety of equipment and assets, where you will have the opportunity to embrace curiosity and develop new skills outside of your normal day to day activities. You ll be responsible for making sure our treatment processes are working optimally to deliver important work enhancing our regions rivers. The role will consist of

  • Proactively and reactively maintain the mechanical assets onsite.
  • Pumps, Chemical dosing, Gear boxes, High pressure systems, Gas Systems, Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems, Valves, Motors, Generators, Drive Belts, Conveyors, Scrapers
  • Fabrication, Lubrication and welding activities.
  • Continuously improve mechanical asset base.
  • Complete Lifting Operations safely as per LOLER regs.
  • Fault finding and diagnostics
  • Interpret and update Mechanical drawings
  • Supporting the Design and Build of new processes
  • Owns site mechanical performance for the site
  • Monitor treatment processes using SCADA system and act on alarms as required
  • Proactively review the health and availability of assets on site
  • Ensure all relevant training including mechanical and maintenance training is up to date
You will be based at one of our main sewage treatment works dependant on home location and will be provided with a vehicle for business use, laptop, safety clothing and tools appropriate to the job. The core working hours are Monday to Friday, you will also participate in a 24/7 stand-by rota. The role is part of a competency framework to support your development from Foundation through to Skilled , with the option to progress to Expert status. Starting at £38,574.30 rising to £5,124.35 depending on additional qualifications and experience. WHAT YOU LL BRING TO THE ROLE Along with your experience, you must hold
  • NVQ level 3 Mechanical qualification
  • A full UK driving licence will be required for the role
You ll be expected to know how to work with process control systems and have a working knowledge of industrial mechanical installation requirements and standards. In Severn Trent we use a number of different devices on the job so your experience working with various IT systems will be great. You must have sound diagnostic and problem-solving skills. Basic instrumentation skills are desirable but not essential as there will be an opportunity to upskill and develop a second skill set.
