Job summary

Automation Experts Ltd. is seeking a Field Service Engineer to support customers across Scotland and wider UK, including travel to diverse sectors from metal to EV charging and energy storage. The role is hybrid with UK-wide travel from Glasgow area.

Key responsibilities include commissioning, fault-finding, and on-site technical support, with frequent customer liaison and collaboration with Project Engineers.

Qualifications

  • HNC / HND or higher qualification in Electrical, Electronic or Automation Engineering.
  • Completed apprenticeship in Electrical, Electronic or Automation discipline.
  • Proven experience with AC and DC drives.
  • Experience with PLCs and HMIs (beneficial).
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the UK and Europe.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact between the business and customers, providing technical field support.
  • Commission new AC and DC motor control systems, independently and as part of a team.
  • Carry out troubleshooting, in-field design modifications, and repair of control systems across multiple industries.
  • Provide emergency breakdown support and rapid response to customer issues.
  • Work closely with Project Engineers during system testing and functional verification.
  • Deliver telephone, email, and remote technical support to customer engineering and maintenance teams.
  • Identify opportunities to promote additional services, upgrades, and spare parts.
  • Hybrid role with extensive UK travel and occasional international travel (up to 60%).
  • Work in varied environments including tight spaces and at height.

Established as a world leader in electrical control systems an exciting opportunity for a Field Service Engineer to support customers in a variety of sectors, including Metal, Dyno Test Rigs, Hydrogen Electrolyzer PSUs, EV Charging points and Battery Energy Storage around Scotland.

The Role:
  • Act as the primary point of contact between the business and customers, providing technical field support
  • Commission new AC and DC motor control systems, independently and as part of a team
  • Carry out troubleshooting, in-field design modifications, and repair of control systems across multiple industries
  • Provide emergency breakdown support and rapid response to customer issues
  • Work closely with Project Engineers during system testing and functional verification
  • Ensure systems operate in line with Functional Design Specifications (where available)
  • Deliver telephone, email, and remote technical support to customer engineering and maintenance teams
  • Analyse faults, propose alternative solutions, and implement optimal resolutions
  • Follow company service processes and standards at all times
  • Identify opportunities to promote additional services, upgrades, and spare parts
  • Hybrid role with extensive UK travel and occasional international travel (up to 60%)
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including non-standard hours and on-call support
  • Work in varied environments including tight spaces and at height
The Person:
  • HNC / HND or higher qualification in Electrical, Electronic or Automation Engineering or
  • Completed apprenticeship in Electrical, Electronic or Automation discipline
  • Proven experience with AC and DC drives (essential)
  • Experience with PLCs and HMIs (beneficial)
  • Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals and computer-based systems
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Confident working independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with customers
  • Willing and able to travel frequently within the UK and Europe, sometimes at short notice
  • Flexible, proactive, and comfortable working in demanding site environments

Located in the Glasgow Area, this role would be commutable from East Kilbride, Hamilton, Glasgow and other surrounding areas.
