Service Director for Governance (Monitoring Officer)

Bedford Borough Council is an existing unitary authority with a directly elected Mayor. In this newly created role, you will report directly to our Chief Executive and will be an important member of the ‘golden triangle’ and the wider leadership team. You will ensure that our governance framework supports the effective and compliant delivery of Council services throughout the Borough and will provide expert advice to Officers and Members. Responsibilities will also include strategic and operational leadership for a range of services which include Legal, Democratic, Elections and the Mayor’s office.

We are looking for someone who is politically adept with strong Monitoring Officer experience in an upper tier authority. You will have a successful track record in both strategic and operational roles driving service improvement and innovation. Excellent communication skills are vital and your ability to lead high performing teams is essential.

Interview Process

A virtual stakeholder panel interview will take place on 12th or 13th May 2025. Interviews will take place in person at Borough Hall on 20th May 2025.
