Job overview

For CAMHS, the operational directorate will provide core services within the 0-18 age range including:
• Community Mental Health Services
• Liaison Mental Health Services based at Croydon University Hospital, University Hospital Lewisham, King's College Hospital and Evelina
• Early intervention services including those delivered within schools and through families
• Complex Care Services
• Inpatient services
• Home Treatment Team and Response services
• Crisis Line
• National & Specialist Outpatient Services which operates the widest range of outpatient services for children and young people in the UK and internationally covering very specialist or complex needs

The operational directorate has over 1000 staff, and budget of ~£70m, with community services working within each of the four SLaM boroughs - Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark - and the National & Specialist portfolio reaching across the country and internationally.

Main duties of the job
• To lead, with the medical and nursing lead and wider leadership team, the effective working of governance structures, roles and responsibilities
• Ensure effective relationships with the Integrated Care Boards (particularly SWL and SEL ), Integrated Care Systems, "Place" commissioning and services for Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark, the South London Partnership, NHS England, local authorities, schools (including the hospital school) and external stakeholders
• Ensure mechanisms in place to involve key stakeholders in service planning and delivery, to develop culturally sensitive services acceptable to an ethnically diverse inner city population and to ensure fair access to services irrespective of gender, sexuality, religion, culture, race or disability.
• To host Trust-wide and National Specialist services . All hosted services will be managed by the Director with the same responsibilities as all other Operational Directorate teams, ensuring the portfolio hosted is reviewed and in line with organizational development processes.
• Through KMP promote the development and adoption of innovation into existing and new service approaches focusing on existing workstreams for digital, schools and equalities. To develop the strategic vision for young children (<5 yrs) and parental mental health in line with KMP

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• To implement the Operational Directorate's Strategy in such a way as to integrate research, teaching and education and service delivery activity and to reflect the needs of the Trust and Kings Health Partners.
• To promote the delivery of innovative effective care pathways.
• To promote the integration of physical and mental health and wellbeing, employing physical, psychological and social approaches with an emphasis on social inclusion, recovery and the interface between acute and mental health services.
• To ensure that there is an appropriate focus on training and education, including professional and personal development for all staff, alongside aims for research and service delivery.
• To consult widely to ensure that staff within the Operational Directorate and other stakeholders are supportive of the Operational Directorate and wider Trust strategy and contribute to its effective delivery.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience in health related subject.
  • Management qualification and/or extensive knowledge and expertise acquired through training and experience up to doctoral level

Knowledge/Skills

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of excellent leadership and management skills
  • A deep understanding of health care provision together with awareness and appreciation of current NHS policy and priorities, particularly in relation to mental health
  • Analyses, interprets and evaluates complex data and draws logical and sound conclusions. Grasps complex problems, understands immediate and long term implications of decisions and has creative approach to problem solving.
  • Is self-motivated, confident and outcome orientated. Maintains performance under pressure, resilient, contains emotions, and demonstrates an ability to work creatively with conflict. Ability to reflect on emotional competence i.e. self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, relationship management

  • Significant experience of management at senior level, meeting objectives and performance management targets
  • Experience of contributing to the development and implementation of strategy.
  • A proven track record of managing large budgets and resolving conflicting priorities.
  • Experience of change management and the development of new initiatives
  • Experience of delivering in a large and complex organisation and working collaboratively with other organisations
  • Experience of collaborative leadership arrangements at a senior level including leading a multi professional management team
