DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



The Service Associate (SA) is an integral member of the patient care unit, health care team, and environmental services program. The SA works in close collaboration with other team members in providing support for the service/facility area or patient care unit activities and assistance in meeting basic patient care and service/facility needs as outlined. Duties include: cleaning and making up beds and stretchers; maintaining equipment and reporting need for repairs and/or requisitioning the repairs; assisting with ordering, receiving and distributing supplies; replenishing carts and rooms with supplies; cleaning and disinfecting floors, walls, ceilings, windows, lights, furniture, vents, washrooms, kitchen, medication room, portering of patients, etc. Daily; performing errands to stores, lab, pharmacy and nutrition; emptying garbage, sharps containers and linen; defrosting and cleaning of refrigerators, freezers and ice machines; and other duties and tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

*Ability to read and write English to the level required for the job;
*Demonstrated sound knowledge of fundamentals of universal precautions relating to cleaning and handling of equipment, supplies and specimens;
*Proven knowledge of WHMIS;
*Proven effective communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;
*Ability to work as a member of the unit team with minimum supervision;
*Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines- adapting to changing demands with flexibility and efficiency.
*Physically capable of performing duties including: being able to walk extensively and climb stairs and ladders on a regular basis;
*Previous hospital experience as an SA (preferred);
*Must be able to work all shifts;
*Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient, and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area;
*Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
*Must have a satisfactory performance record.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.

Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
