Applications are invited from internal and external substantive Sergeants on promotion, as well as transfer opportunities for external substantive Inspectors. Applicants must be suitably experienced, competent, and credible for immediate promotion to the rank of Inspector in the West Midlands Police.
To be eligible, you must have held your current rank for at least two years, calculated from your first posting after promotion, excluding any temporary rank. Additionally, your portfolio for NPPF Level 4 must be signed off. Applicants must not have a live misconduct sanction; those under investigation can apply but cannot be posted until investigations conclude and depending on the outcome.

West Midlands Police seeks Inspectors for roles across the force area and functions. Candidates will be allocated a date and time for the interview, with possible re-scheduling only under specific circumstances such as being out of the country, exceptional circumstances approved by HR, or scheduling conflicts.
The operational briefing topic is: "As a newly promoted Inspector, how will you embed a problem-solving mindset into your work and your teams?" It will last 10 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of questions. Use of PowerPoint is optional.
