Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join the Gateway team at the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU). The Gateway team serves as the single point of entry for forces and partner agencies requesting access to capability support and transfers of risk.

We welcome applications from substantive Police and Detective Sergeants, as well as those who have successfully passed a force promotion board and are awaiting positing as a Sergeant.

The successful candidate will proactively identify opportunities to support South East forces, the ROCU network, and partner agencies across the SOC system in tackling serious organised crime. The role will involve working closely with ROCTA to understand regional risk distribution and identify investigations where SEROCU should either adopt the risk or provide specialist capability support.

The successful candidate will leverage their knowledge and understanding of SEROCU capabilities and covert tactics to offer tactical advice to forces and partners, aiding them in the development of SOC investigations. Additionally, they will assist in the planning, preparation, and delivery of SEROCU Tasking Meetings, ensuring compliance with the National Intelligence Model (NIM) and the application of ‘advise, assist and adopt’ principles.

Maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders is crucial, as they will ensure clear and concise communication of outcomes and updates. Regular attendance at Force TTCG will be required to present a regional picture of the threat, harm, risk, and opportunities within each force geography.

The role will also involve facilitating deconfliction between the ROCU network and the NCA by ensuring effective communication and coordination, preventing operational overlap, and optimising resource allocation. The successful candidate will plan and chair SEROCU capabilities meetings with representatives from South East forces and SEROCU Team Leaders, aiming to maximise opportunities for the disruption and dismantlement of Organised Crime Groups (OCGs) operating within and across the South East.

Finally, they will collate and coordinate SEROCU resources to respond to immediate tasking decisions or time-critical requests from South East forces and partner agencies, supporting identified priorities within the SEROCU control strategy.

Please note that this role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you may be required to travel for business purposes mainly across the south east region and occasionally throughout the UK. Therefore, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.

Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary for the successful candidate to obtain and maintain vetting level SC together with a number of enhanced security checks. In order to achieve this, you must be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past five years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.
