The Sun’s multi-award-winning Audience department is at the heart of our newsroom, with talented journalists publishing top coverage of news, sport, TV, showbiz, lifestyle, and family values. Our successful SEO team plays a central role in our publishing operation, driving search traffic, growing audiences, and building engagement and loyalty.

The role: The Sun is seeking a talented individual to support the development of The Sun’s SEO traffic.

This role involves producing and editing stories for The Sun, with SEO principles integrated into every story.

Our SEO journalists work on a rota, so some evenings (usually once a week) and weekends (usually once a month) are required.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Confidently identifying search trends and making recommendations
  • Optimising the homepage with search-friendly headlines and links in stories
  • Writing stories on various topics
  • Ensuring all stories are grammatically correct and well-edited
  • Conducting in-depth research to inform and entertain readers
  • Contacting sources and PR executives for story information when needed
  • Communicating with the newsroom on breaking stories
  • Having a thorough knowledge of the IPSO Code of Conduct, media law, and ethical considerations

What we are looking for:

  • Experience working to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding The Sun Online audience
  • Experience in an editorial setting, preferably a newsroom
  • Knowledge of SEO principles
  • Familiarity with SEO tools like Google Trends
  • Experience using WordPress or similar CMS platforms
