Job Title: Senior Support Worker

This is a permanent and full-time position in a brand new, high-quality unit in the Glossop area.

Job Purpose & Objectives
  • Support, assist, provide guidance, and set boundaries for looked-after children and young people within a safe and stable residential environment, on an individual and group basis.
  • Safeguard, promote the welfare, and advocate for children and young people to ensure care exceeds National Minimum Standards.
  • Collaborate with senior management and external agencies such as Local Authorities, schools, health services, and other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for residents.
  • Lead, supervise, and support junior staff providing round-the-clock care, ensuring adherence to quality standards and the Statement of Purpose.
  • Assist in maintaining policies, procedures, and record-keeping, ensuring effective deployment of resources to meet standards and expectations.
  • Help maintain a competent, safe, motivated, and confident staff team.
  • Promote equal opportunity and anti-discriminatory practices within the home.
Specific Duties & Key Responsibilities
Meeting the needs of young people:
  • Follow care plans effectively, addressing care, education, social, emotional, cultural, therapeutic, and health needs.
  • Act as a Key Worker for specific individuals, responsible for reviewing and implementing childcare plans.
  • Deliver high standards of childcare, exercising guidance and control, and maintaining the home's ethos and security.
  • Record observations and contribute to ongoing assessments through meetings with staff, families, and professionals.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Supporting colleagues:
  • Assist in inducting and mentoring new staff, ensuring adherence to development plans and expectations.
  • Lead shifts and teams, ensuring compliance with policies and optimal resource allocation.
  • Participate in the rota system, covering various shifts including early mornings, late evenings, sleep-ins, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Foster a culture that values contributions, balances confidentiality and transparency, and encourages initiative.
  • Support staff during physical interventions to ensure safety.
  • Plan and facilitate social activities, including residential camps and outdoor pursuits.
