Job summary

Sword Group in Aberdeen is seeking an experienced Senior Workplace Engineer to take technical ownership of complex workplace services across our managed customer environments. This senior, hands‑on role focuses on End User Compute, M365, endpoint management and hybrid meeting room technology.

You’ll lead device provisioning, admin Microsoft 365/Intune/Entra ID/Exchange Online/Teams, and drive improvements to security baselines, deployment, and service standards.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of experience in workplace engineering or enterprise IT operations.
• Strong certifications in Microsoft 365 administration or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with Intune, Entra ID, Exchange Online and Teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead corporate device provisioning and lifecycle activity, including Windows Autopilot deployment and enrolment.
• Administer and improve Microsoft 365, Intune, Entra ID, Exchange Online and Teams.
• Configure endpoint compliance policies, deployment of apps, and security baselines.
• Diagnose secure email issues, including mailbox configuration and anti-phishing controls.
• Lead hybrid meeting-room services with Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms.
• Investigate service issues, identify root causes and publish runbooks.
• Monitor deployment and user experience signals to mitigate risks.
• Support onboarding by defining support boundaries and escalation routes.
• Coach junior engineers and communicate technical details to customers.

Sword is looking for an experienced Senior Workplace Engineer to take technical ownership of complex workplace services across our managed customer environments.

This is a senior, hands‑on engineering role for someone who understands that workplace technology directly affects how people work. You’ll resolve difficult technical issues, improve the standards behind the service and help other engineers develop stronger technical judgement.

The scope is broad. You’ll work across End User Compute, Microsoft 365, endpoint management, identity integration, device provisioning, email security, collaboration platforms and hybrid meeting room technology.

Take technical ownership of complex workplace incidents, service requests and escalations across endpoints, Microsoft 365, identity, collaboration platforms and meeting‑room technology.

What the role looks like:

• Lead corporate device provisioning and lifecycle activity, including device builds, Windows Autopilot deployment, Intune enrolment, rebuilds and customer‑specific standards.
• Administer and improve Microsoft 365, Intune, Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, Zoom, Windows, macOS, iOS and approved mobile device management platforms.
• Configure and maintain endpoint compliance policies, application deployment, update rings, security baselines, enrolment settings and Conditional Access‑related controls.
• Diagnose and resolve secure email issues involving mailbox configuration, transport rules, message tracing, anti‑phishing controls, spam filtering and quarantine handling.
• Lead the configuration, testing and improvement of hybrid meeting‑room services, including Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, room accounts and audio‑visual equipment.
• Investigate recurring service problems, identify root causes, coordinate remediation and convert lessons learned into improved standards, runbooks and knowledge articles.
• Use monitoring, device‑management and service data to identify deployment failures, compliance drift, poor user‑experience signals and emerging service risks.
• Support workplace service transitions and onboarding by defining support boundaries, monitoring requirements, documentation, technical standards and escalation routes before services enter live operation.
• Coach Workplace Engineers and Junior Workplace Engineers, while providing clear technical communication to customers and internal teams during incidents, changes, deployments and improvement activity.

You’ll have five or more years of experience in workplace engineering, endpoint support, Microsoft 365 administration, managed workplace services or enterprise IT operations.

You should hold relevant technical certifications, or be able to demonstrate equivalent practical experience. Suitable certification areas include Microsoft 365 administration, endpoint management, identity and access, Microsoft Intune, Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, Apple device management, Jamf, MDM or MAM. ITIL Foundation or relevant security training would also be valuable.

You’ll need strong practical knowledge of:

• End User Compute, endpoint support, Microsoft 365 administration and managed workplace service delivery.
• Strong technical capability across Microsoft Intune, Entra ID, Windows 10/11, Windows Autopilot, Teams and Exchange Online.
• Experience managing device enrolment, corporate device provisioning, configuration profiles, compliance policies, update controls, security baselines and application deployment.
• Working knowledge of macOS, iOS, Apple Business Manager, Jamf or comparable mobile device management platforms.
• Strong capability in secure email administration, including mailbox management, transport rules, message tracing, anti‑phishing controls, spam filtering and quarantine handling.
• Practical experience supporting Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, room accounts, audio‑visual equipment and hybrid meeting‑room services.
• Ability to lead complex investigations across endpoints, identity, Microsoft 365, applications and collaboration platforms, supported by sound knowledge of MFA, Conditional Access, endpoint protection and patching.
• Ability to apply ITIL‑aligned service management practices, maintain reliable technical documentation and runbooks, deliver controlled service improvements and coach less‑experienced engineers.

Experience working in a customer‑facing managed service or enterprise operational environment is important. You should be comfortable handling escalations, making evidence‑based technical decisions and explaining risks or options clearly to engineers, service teams and customer contacts.
