About the role
Great Britain's electricity system is undergoing an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system that protects the planet and serves future generations.
The Whole Energy Modelling Team will undertake analysis across various topics and energy vectors (electricity, gas, hydrogen) to support our Strategy and Policy directorate. Your role involves contributing to whole energy system analysis, especially through case studies addressing key decarbonisation decisions. This analysis will provide the quantitative evidence needed to develop effective energy insights and advise government.
You will contribute to providing independent strategic advice and recommendations to industry and government on integrating decarbonised energy vectors into the UK’s energy system. Responsibilities include scoping work, conducting research and data analysis, and delivering insights that meet stakeholder and industry expectations, considering roles of Hydrogen and decarbonising heat, transport, and industry.
This role can be based in Warwick or Wokingham, with hybrid working options. We are open to full-time, part-time, and flexible working arrangements.

Becoming the National Energy System Operator
In Autumn 2024, the ESO will transition to the National Energy System Operator (NESO), responsible for planning and operating Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks. The ESO will become part of NESO, building capabilities across vectors including electricity, natural gas, and hydrogen, considering trade-offs for a sustainable, affordable, and secure energy future.
The organisation will be a public corporation with independent oversight, operational independence from government and regulators, and regulated by Ofgem.
