The decommissioning sector is at a stimulating point with increased responsibility and investment in safely dismantling and disposing of aging nuclear reactors and managing the UK’s nuclear legacy wastes.

Our Reactor Operations and Decommissioning team, based in Bristol, Warrington, and Glasgow, is diverse and well-placed to meet these challenges, including the Scottish reactor fleet decommissioning.

Due to growth, we are recruiting experienced engineers and scientists as Senior Waste and Decommissioning Consultants. The role is flexible across the UK with hybrid working options.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate on technical projects with clients, applying problem-solving skills in radioactive waste management and decommissioning, with knowledge of the waste management lifecycle.
  • Utilize and adapt technology, such as radiological dose modelling, radionuclide characterisation, automation, and robotics, to improve decommissioning and waste management processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of waste strategies, including environmental permitting and assessments.
  • Identify opportunities for business change towards Net Zero, including waste management planning and contaminated land remediation.
  • Assist in business development through bids, proposals, and technical contributions.
  • Engage globally with team members, share knowledge, and build networks for complex projects.
  • Help establish waste routes to influence project delivery towards Net Zero.
  • Ensure project delivery meets targets within budget and scope.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to junior staff.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and communication.
Requirements:
  • Degree in science (chemistry, physics, environmental sciences) or engineering (chemical, mechanical, process), or significant relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience in a related field; nuclear/radiation experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience working with delivery teams and clients.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • Flexible, travel-ready, highly motivated, and proactive.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to meet UK security clearance requirements.
Desirable:
  • Chartered status from a professional institution.
  • Knowledge of nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management.
  • Project management or leadership experience.
  • On-site nuclear facility experience.
  • Bid writing and management experience.
